When they have exhausted their usefulness, do you throw them away? How do you properly, and respectfully dispose of them? I'm torn. I don't think I've ever thrown one away. I have two drawers full that I haven't worn in years.
What to do?
What to do?

If they're old then they are probably pre-Toonces era shirts, I'd keep em.

My OCD keeps and superstition keeps kicking in every time I think about throwing them away! Salvation Army? I'm not sure who would get it and how they would use it.

I still have the shirt from my first LSU game. Sep 1994 vs moo st. It's ripped in the chest from fabric fatigue. Looks like a Hulkamania shirt. Still wear it around the house. Won't let it go. Toonces gift shirts become outdoor work shirts until they're done. Then, they're thrown away.

Old LSU T-shirts (and their brother Sweat shirts) NEVER exhaust their usefulness. They make the best yard work wear in the wurrrrld. One of my grey shirts is so old 15+ years you can no long read "LSU Athletic Dept." on the front.
My wife's company volunteers each year to work on the Rose Parade floats. I wear the same sweat shirt with glue stains every year.
Don't have a yard or Rose float to work on? K. You need shirts for working on the car engine (or washing your carriage), there's shirts for heavy house work, and if the shirts are really worn out they can be used for dust rags. See! You never need to worry about throwing them out.
Finally, when your time comes to depart, just bequeath them to your heirs.

Dispose of in a respectful manner, preferably ceremonial burning.

Just put two of my small coaches polos in a bag for Goodwill. It was tough to do, but I'll never fit in them again. lol
