I just heard his press conference and hearing him get emotional and talking about his pain he has been dealing with for the last three years is tough. I respect him a lot for being a great person and to know when to step down. That was something Les Miles failed to see. I love the part where he said he wants to visit his former players and see how they are doing not wait for his funeral. I hope he can enjoy retirement with his wife and family.

He's only stepping down because he physically can't coach anymore. It's not really the same thing. If he were healthy, he almost certainly would still coach.

He said that's why he was stepping down. Why do you think he's retiring?

You really believe Woodward was about to fire him if he didn’t retire this season? I actually don’t believe he was going to be fired.

He said that was one of the reasons but said basically he’s not able to be the same coach anymore that the program deserves better and he didn’t want to leave the program in a bad spot by dragging it out. I have a lot of respect for that

Yes because of his neck issue

There was almost a sense of remorse for not winning more, and for not being successful at the end. He knew it was time. Respect the guy. Hell of a career.

The implication for him not being able to be the same coach was the same. He was referring to the issues related to his pain.

He was literally asked if that was the only reason and he said no but that it was one of the reasons.

For deciding to retire, not for his inability to be the same coach.

Not at all what he was saying. He said he did not plan on retiring and planned on finishing through the careers of the freshman. He apologized to the players so that they would not feel like he misled them.

Because he makes pour decisions and run program into ground.

Only school i know that tries to field a second baseman at every position on the field

I listened to the same press conference you did. I also listened to the Q&A portion where he was directly asked if his neck issues are the cause of all this. He said no, it was among the reasons that led to this but he couldn’t say what percentage impact it had. He didn’t elaborate on the others (which I’m sure are stress of the job, not winning anymore, pressure to do the same, age, etc) Feel free to listen to it again. Per Paul himself, his neck is not the ONLY reason he’s retiring, which is what I responded to.

Much respect to Coach, few win 1,500 games in anything.

All of that is exacerbated by the neck issue and would likely be otherwise eaaily manageable.
