For LSU's part, they have publicly stated that they will pursue the (PETA) accreditation. In keeping with the progressive stance, the university says Mike is no longer driven out onto the field in a cage during home football games.

The death of another harmless tradition by political correctness. This time by PETA. Mike will no longer be brought out in his cage and circle the field & be able to greet our opponents exiting their locker room. It's a sad day for LSU Football.

I suspect it never was about Mike VI wanting or not wanting to get into the cage before he got sick.

PETA is the definition of NOT objective!

Could have gone to zoos or even humane society.

Dr. Baker made that call about no more cage trips in the stadium, as it caused the animal too much stress.

If we can claim it as a pro-PETA concession, why wouldn't we?

I think Mike VI would have gladly gone to the stadium if there were no fireworks and for me to state the heresy (for an old retreaded field artilleryman) of NO cannon firing...

We should try to take Mike VII to the game. If it turns out that he doesn't like it, stop taking him.

It's sad that you would let something so trivial bother you.

My son is currently in the ME program at LSU minoring in robotics. I think it would be so much fun if they created a robotic tiger (not to replace the live one, mind you). I've hinted at all the things he could do, like be found sleeping in the opponents' locker room, prowling out with the band for pregame, etc. My son just tells me I'm nuts. Maybe one day . . .

1) It's stupid to say that this tiger is going to react the same as the last.
2) This tradition shouldn't have been left to one man to make the call.
3) Nobody cares about PETA. They kill more dogs than anybody. They're the planned parenthood of animals.
4) the tiger only stays at the game for a little while anyway so the noise level shouldn't be that bad.
5) the fireworks shiild only be planned for night games or late afternoon games just out of sheer logic.

I've been saying this for years. Imagine how awesome it would be if they could program him to do the coin toss...

LSU is stupid to cooperate with leftwing extremist loons. No way should LSU appease leftwing extremist loons. You give them an inch and they think they own you.

In fact it's not the same without Mike in the stadium during home games. I realize they had stopped bringing Mike VI out in the stadium for games, but now we know the real reason why and it's not what they said.

Today it's confederate statues, tomorrow it will be the founders and pretty soon we won't be America anymore.

this x1000. It's a great tradition that is well known around the country.
Does anyone have the Mike the Tiger book Dr Baker wrote about 15 yrs ago? In many parts throughout, the tradition of driving around the field is mentioned. Only talks about it in a positive light and what a cool tradition it is. Of course now it is supposedly upsetting to Mike. It's not like it's hard to tell when an animal is upset, whether it's a dog, cat etc. and none of the Mikes ever looked distressed to me. Mike would just lay in his trailer as cool as a cucumber checking everything out.

You would be wrong. It was about the animal and his stress level. Whoever put those stupid fireworks on the field killed the tradition. They cannot make a 400+ lb tiger get into a cage he he does not want too.

I would love if they would can the fireworks and roll the Tiger. I think this could work. Besides the freaking Aggies do this firework thing too at Kyle field. Let's get away from that.

Daytime fireworks at field level are one of the dumbest pre-game events ever added.
