A BIRTHDAY WISH FROM MIKE VI

Hello Tiger Fans! It's my birthday!
Mike here. Really. Actually I was named Roscoe at birth and that’s the name that will perk up my ears. But if getting a new name gets me this incredibly sweet crib, expert care and all of this human adulation, I’ll take that trade! Any tiger would kill to take my place. Well, most of them kill anyway to eat, but you know what I mean.
I don’t post much because of my clumsy paws on this tiny notebook that I snatched from one of my trainers and hid behind a bush when she wasn’t looking. I kinda feel bad but it was an LSU computer and I figure I deserve it, since I'm kinda "staff" too and especially since it’s the only way for me to keep in touch with my family.
That’s actually why I am writing. It’s my birthday and I often hear people at the cage wonder what else they could do special for me. Folks, I now have everything a tiger could dream of having – except maybe a ladyfriend tiger, but I digress- but if you REALLY want to do something for me, please consider making a donation to help out Great Cats of Indiana, where I was born and where my family still lives. Rob, Laura and an incredible group of workers and volunteers are the most caring and giving people in the world. They have transformed their farm in Idaville, Indiana into a sanctuary for rescued big cats and other assorted orphans. It’s not fancy but they keep it as clean as possible and provide the best tender loving care. Here's a picture of Rob feeding my Dad Tigger a tasty chicken treat with mom waiting for her turn.
My dad, mom, sibs, and other family are among the nearly dozen tigers that live there, and they also house a panther, a few lions, bobcats as well as some wolves, foxes, horses and a loud mouthed mule. Chickens and pigs, well, let's just say the Circle of Life is absolutely delicious. Hakuna Matada.
Great Cats is too small to attract any big foundation grants and must survive on donations of food from area farmers and businesses, guided tour admissions, and monitary donations from humans like you. Rob and Laura mean the world to me for the care and love they have given me and my family.
If you want to make Roscoe, er, Mike chuff with happiness, please consider sending any kind of donation to Great Cats of Indiana. Here's a link to GREAT CATS OF INDIANA web page with the whole story about how I became Mike VI. Read it and then click on the Donate button. Make sure to tell them you are an LSU fan and it’s in honor of my birthday. I hope LSU fans never forget what Great Cats has done for Tiger fans and in the spirit of tigers everywhere. And, if you ever get near Indiana, you must make the pilgrimage to visit. LSU visitors get the royal treatment.
Thanks, Happy Birthday to Me!!!

Call e-harmony. Ask them if they can get you a life.
how about you not be a tool? The guy works for the place we got Mike from and is just using his birthday as a way to get attention for their cause.

Thanks elleshoe. It's a jungle out there. Lots of monkeys in the trees.
Great Cats is no joke, and neither is this message. Without them there would be no me.

I'd donate but I'm broke and going back to school. Keep up the good work. Is the Memphis mascot from Great Cats as well? Any others?

I'm the only one that has been donated to a school. It's a rescue sanctuary where they get exotics that dumb humans think they can handle and then have to give up when they maul the furniture. So Great Cats is usually a last and safe destination for them.
There is a contact email at their Web site. Email Rob any questions about the facility. He may know where other schools are getting their mascots from.
THANKS

I got a brick at your cage. Does this count?
Posted on 7/26/09 at 9:25 am to tigerdup07
It all counts, of course. The Friends of Mike the Tiger campaign helped provide my habitat (as good as any in the world) at LSU, and I thank everyone who donated and bought bricks.
None of that money went to Great Cats. In fact, federal regulations prohibit any quid pro quo deals in transactions involving exotic endangerd animals. LSU could not pay Great Cats a dime for me. It was a straight up donation. In fact, when Rob and his family came down to see me the first season I was here LSU could not provide them with lodging or travel, but some fans raised some money and made it possible for them to come.
Truth is stranger than fiction sometimes. However, I do agree that the trade of animals like me should be regulated, otherwise there would be a lot more illegal and harmful trapping and selling of lions and tigers (and bears, oh my) but it's a little too stringent when you can't even do something legit like bringing the people who raised me to LSU to be honored.
Thanks again.

I will ask the question that no one seems to want to ask: is mike fixed?

Happy birthday, Roscoe/Mike. Like I mentioned to you last year, I'm supporting Great Cats through the IGive website. Each Google search I make gets them 1 cent, and I do a lot of searches. It's a quick and easy way to help.
On another note, have you heard if Rob and Laura are coming to Baton Rouge for game this year? I hope they do, becuse I'd sure like to meet them if they do!

Happy B Day Mike, please do us all a favor and get in your cage for every home game and parade around the stadium, it is a fair trade off for the nice digs and health care.
