What he's saying by look beyond the numbers is both QB's had bad stat lines. Etling looked much more composed and in control of the offense though. We have to start somewhere, and at the lowest level the first and only thing we can hope for is IMPROVED QB play. Was Etling lights out great? Absolutely not. But he was an improvement over Harris last night. This is college football at a major university, and Harris is like 3/10 on 10 yard hook routes dude, passes you see in junior high football. Even the TV crew commented on how bad his footwork and pocket presence was.

It's the little things that have us excited about Etling such as command of the huddle, footwork, not snapping the ball with 1 sec on the play clock every down, completed passes to the tight ends, check down completions. Overall flow of the offense, if nothing else, was much improved.

We run a Bud Kilmer offense, we are a running team, but when you have a QB who no defense respects they load the box and stop our bread and butter. Etling prevents that with a passing threat, and for our team, right now, it's all we can hope for
