McDonald gave up an unearned run so we are talking about 2 different
records,. I haven't seen the record for scoreless innings

Mr. Golden Spikes. He went 44 + innings. The one Lakeboy7 criticizes for having a flat fastball.

Ben's was unearned and then he continues for more scoreless innings afterwards as I recall. Don't remember how long it was before he gave up an earned run.

Todd Helton had a streak longer as a closer at 47.

It was 44 1/3 scoreless and then an unearned run. He then went several more scoreless.

That '89 staff was the most talented arms Skip ever had.
Ogea
McDonald
Byrd
Springer
O'Donohue
Leskanic

Man Skip underachieved with that team.

I think that's for not giving up an earned run.

Correct... Big Ben holds the record for most innings without giving up an earned run. Poche's record is for most "scoreless" innings.

Ogea didn't start neither did Leskanic.
Larosa was on that team.

Sirotka(?) was the next year.

incorrect. Poche doesn't hold any records.

Here is from LSU Sports.net. Besides this Ben mentioned it in conversation with Lynn about 5 times during the games weekend before last.

“Ben was hitting 96 (mph) and 97 on the gun,” Bush recalled. “He struck out 14. He went to three balls on one guy from Okie State and then struck him out on three pieces of cheese. When we were running off the field, he yelled at the guy, ‘What’d you think I was going to walk you,’ and we got pumped up even more. Ben was ultra-competitive, all the time, no matter what we did. That showed us he was ready to be a star.”>

That start to the 1989 season started a string of 44.2 consecutive scoreless innings, a Southeastern Conference record that stood for more than 15 seasons. Following a 144-strikeouts sophomore season, McDonald chalked up a SEC record 202 strikeouts in his 152.1 innings in 1989, nearly 12 strikeouts per nine innings.

That streak was broken by an unearned run BUT he went on the throw more score after that from what came out on Lynn's mouth and Ben agreed.
