(This is a repost of a thread I started. The original thread was removed after someone began posting derogatory comments about players/coaches.)

Who is losing who to graduation this year? Some teams will be only slightly affected by the graduation of the seniors on the roster, but others, like LSU, will have its work cut out for them to maintain the level of play, or something close to it, come the 2018 College softball season.

To begin with, LSU is going to lose two of its best hitters in the history of LSU softball...Bailey Landry, and Sahvannah Jaquish. In addition to that, its spiritual leader, Constance Quinn, will be gone as well. Though Savoie only played sparingly, she was on the team for all four of her college years.

LSU Coach Beth Torina will now be faced with crucial decisions, some which might even send some players off via transfer. Sydney Smith and Nicky Dawson both find themselves at pivotal points in their career. There is little chance at all that Smith will jump Carly or Allie and become the #2 pitcher. What we saw this year is what we are going to see next year, and Smith has to decide if that is going to be satisfying.

Naturally, Smith could transfer to another team, like Kentucky, who is losing its ace, Prince, or South Carolina, who is losing its ace, Nicky Blue, to graduation.

Likewise, Nicky Dawson, who performed well as a (mostly) pinch hitter, may very well find herself in the same role, and, like Smith, she may decide to transfer.

It's going to depend on Shemiah Sanchez, and where Beth Torina decides to play her. Many fans believe she is more suited for second base, rather than third. What many think will happen is Doyle ill move to third base, Sanchez to second, and Springfield to first.

That is pretty much the gist of the drama we will see next year. Griggs and Andrews will keep their spots, and either Thornhill or a newcomer will play right field. Thornhill may struggle at the plate, but she is solid in the field. She can also play first base.

Outside of LSU, this is what roster losses are going to look like...

Alabama- key losses Runyon, Littlejohn, and Dare, all starters and key players

Florida- key losses Gourley, Herndon, and Justine McClean, all three starters, as Herndon sometimes plays as DP

Georgia- key losses are Maeve McGuire and Sydni Emanuel, others include Lindsey Miles, Kayleigh Meldin, Bekah Firmins (sp?)

Kentucky- key losses Megan Prince and Brianna Ray, Shannon Smith

TAMU- Regan Boekner, Celina Massey

Ole Miss- Key losses Courtney Syrett, Miranda Strother, and Dakota Matiko, Raven Campos

Arkansas- Key losses Shelby Hiers, Nicole Shroeder, Stephanie Canfield and Grace Moll, Harney and Pocklington

Missouri-key losses Kristen Mack, Chloe Rathburn Cheyenne Baxter

Auburn- key losses Kasey Cooper, Haley Fagan, Jenna Abbott and cheerleader cutie Sydney Waldrop

Tennessee – key loss Megan Geer, and Kassidy Gallo

Miss State -Key losses Katie Ann Bailey, Caroline Setz, Alexis Silkwood, and Amanda Ivy

South Carolina-key losses Nicky Blue and Kaylea Snaer, also Taylor Williams, Victoria Williams, Jessica Elliot, and Misty Webb

Just adding this, someone reported and confirmed that Sydney Smith said on Instagram that she is transferring. I have NO information on that, as her Instagram account is private.

Satchell may also transfer, that's the last I heard.

If Cunningham becomes the catcher, I am not sure where else Satchell could play. Satchell can hit, we know that.

There has been talk of inside-strife. Maybe some players feel they should have gotten play time... I do not know, but if someone comes on here and starts making outlandish remarks again, they are going to take this thread down.

We all want to see LSU succeed. we all agree we have serious issues with batting.

It will be interesting to see what happens in 2018.

From what we have seen in 2017, we have a pretty good idea of what the lineup will look like. Assuming Sanchez will move back to second base, it will look something like this...

Andrews -LF'
Griggs-CF
Doyle-3B
Springfield-1B
Sanchez-2B
Serret-SS
Cunningham-C
(Right Fielder)
Dawson-DP

I imagine Sanchez and Dawson will taken turns playing second base.

People say that when a coach is recruiting, he/she has to make promises. From the looks of it, we have one position open to promise to a prospective player. That would be right field.

One thing I am confident of is the coach's ability to take the team as far as it could possibly go with the level of talent we have. That is the mark of a good coach... being able to beat teams that are superior, talent-wise.

I really wish Syd would have stayed. MB is basically our main back up now. I hope she can get past her mental roadblock because we will need her!

Good luck to Sydney and Taylor. Both class acts that wore the LSU banner high and proud. Lots going on right now in the softball world.

Smith is going to be All-American by the time she is done with college ball.

As for Satchell, she can hit, and I am sure wherever she goes, she will do well.

Sorry to see them go, but I think Smith knew she'd get more playing time elsewhere, and she will be #1 pitcher probably wherever she ends up.

Just my view of the second base job.

If it is down to Sanchez vs Dawson the better defensive player should play second and the better offensive player should be the DP.

The offense and defense both need a significant makeover before next season.

Leave no rock unturned would be my motto if I was Beth

Everyone is all everything in high school.

But if your a starter or a role player it doesn't matter, no player should make the rest of the team put up with the type of drama she brought to this team with her personal life!

So it like a huge ego problem with Dawson? Is she good? Any way I hope the team bonds well in the off season. Where you surprise OU beat UF?

This is a very bad idea to resurrect this thread. All you have done is given this well uninformed jerk a chance to attack our players and coaches again. Like I said before, let's enjoy the success of our season and not give these aholes a platform to spew lies and personal attacks.

Maybe this is a new alter of Bayou Bum... sounds exactly like what he's been telling anyone who would listen at the WCWS. He would use his Twitter, but it was cancelled...

doesn't surprise me at all honestly. she wasn't waiting 3 years to be #1. a freshie could have passed her up like the way the current two studs passed up baylee and kelsey. Baylee actually stayed a year too long and she lost out on playing time her junior year. kelsey left with two years left to play. The incoming freshman in the 2018 and 2019 season will have huge opportunities. They will have a shot to pitch 3 or even 4 years. MAribeth will have two once carley and Allie are gone.

Let's face it this is not football where many are ok with waiting until their last year to start. There are always other issues also. With girls on ball teams there always is and always will be drama of some sort. whether justified or not. The coaches job is to recruit the best talent, continue developing, and play them. upgrades happen.

A bad idea?

The individual you are talking about is a registered member of TD. He/she can show up on any thread he/she likes, and the only thing that can be done is either remove the post, or remove the person posting derogatory comments.

A lot of us are very much into LSU softball, and we are not going to have some poster keep us from discussing it.

When I saw what was actually posted in the original thread, the comment by the poster Wellinformed, I was glad they removed the thread.

I am not interested in clubhouse stories and gossip. My experiences with bad coaches and bad teams could be put in a book. I learned that there are some things that need to stay with the team, in the locker room.

I do not believe Beth Torina is a bad coach or person. I believe she is strict, and I have had coaches who were so flimsy in their dealing with players that it was almost like we had no coach, no standards or rules. Teams need structure.

The picture being painted conflicts with the softness that we see in Torina's dealing with players who struggle.

Sanchez and Quinn do not put up the numbers offensively to warrant a play-each-game whether their stats suggest they should or shouldnt. Serret is an eccentric batter, but, her play at short stop is quite similar to Kelsey (Oklahoma's shortstop), which is common among infielders in the MLB. Some get out there and start with .250 batting averages, only because of what they can do on the defensive side.

Auburn had Rivera, a freshman, sitting on the bench, trying to give Madi Gibson, the junior, a chance to climb out the slump she was in. She never came out, and Rivera got her chance to show she is All-American caliber.

Grace is something every coach should have, and i think most of us think of Beth Torina as having a little too much of that, but I can tell you, you might think it makes her a bad coach, but if that is the case, then you must chalk it up as a trait that good people have, and i believe with all my heart that Beth Torina is a good woman.

As for Wellinformed, I would ask that you refrain from posting derogatory comments under my threads.

I know the roster. I have seen most of these girls play. The ones sitting and complaining about not getting play time, i agree, if it was me coaching, I'd probably be more willing to put Sahavannah and Bailey on the bench in games when we were in the late innings and winning easily..throw Weiberger, Satchell , Loupe, and the others out there.

The truth is, though, Beth has given these girls a chance to shine. I had to start out pinch-hitting too, and it was hard to shine with just one bat per game, but from what i can see, with what i know about batting, there are no surprises, and no superstars sitting on Beth Torina's bench.

Nicky, though i think she should start, and should have played a lot this past season, is not what some of you have said she was. Her batting style, again, speaking as a batting coach, is near flawless.

For whatever reason Beth has chosen to use her sparingly, I dont expect myself as a mere fan to know all the reasons.

Imperial, there are a lot of others like you who want to just enjoy the season, as you say. This thread is about NEXT year, about who we are losing, and who will replace them.

My question for you is this.... what would stop the "well uninformed jerk" from posting on anything relating to softball and LSU? You want us to stop talking about LSU softball until next year? Just skip over the threads about that subject then. You dont need to read what I post. I enjoy your comments and respect you, but i dont think it's reasonable for people to try to control what is posted. Read the title, if you dont like it, move on. That's what most of us do.

Thanks for all the input you gave, of all the posters who comment, I always look forward to your comments and thoughts. I know you are an indpendent thinker, and those kind make the best members of a forum like this.

Bhs, sorry your thread got highjacked by wellinformed who is spewing just after joining the site.

Wellinformed is a trouble maker in my opinion and this thread needs to be deleted and let Bhs start if all over again without some Johnny-come-lately getting on here downgrading a team that had no business making it to the WCWS but made it regardless.

We were in the middle of the pack in the SEC, the kids made it happen thanks to themselves and Beth, and now some disgruntled MoFo comes on here spewing garbage.

I hate we ONLY made it to the WCWS.........which means of course we had one of the top 8 teams in the country after losing two All-Americans off last year's squad and that we had a handful of new players starting.

I agree. There are a lot of posters who enjoy discussing softball and the future of our program, much like baseball and football.

I'm not going to bend over and let someone win because there are a couple bad posters.

Now a days we can have these discussions because of where Beth Torina has this program today. They are exciting to watch, they are extremely successful.

The LSU softball twitter and FB page has a top 5 following in the country among all softball programs, its heavily followed and supported nationally.

Like I said I will be posting a review of our season and what to expect for next season. I'll also be discussing the talented new comers coming to the team next year. It's extremely enjoyable for me to discuss this with other hardcore softball fans.

Also I hope the admins allow softball ball discussions to be allowed. Every time now threads are removed or anchored and it destroys these threads every time.

Yeah. Carley is your 1 or 1A pitcher and Torina always talks so good about her. Carley's mom says she loves LSU. So what's the deal?
