The key to Les's success was having a team that had a weak defense. Didnt matter if they had a high scoring offense because LSu's defense would usually slow that down. If that defense was weak though LSU would ground and pound evently wearing them out by the 4th quarter.
If the other team had a defense that could slow the run down then it was gonna be a 4 quarter game. Many of which Les lost in the final few years.
