2014 LSU vs. 2008 LSU. Who Wins?

The 2008 LSU team is considered the worst team in the Miles tenure. 8-5 overall with a bowl win over Georgia Tech and a come from behind victory over Troy. But, still I think that the defense on that 2008 team was better than this team. The offense, even with with Lee and JJ at QB could still move the ball.
Charles Scott ran for 1174 yards and 18 TDs. Brandon Lafell had 929 yards and 8 TDs.
Our offensives stats are better at this point in the season than they were for the 2008 season as a whole, but LSU still has its toughest stretch of games left to play.
So, which team is better? The 2008 team or the 2014 team?

2008 was better. Lee just wasn't ready and threw too many picks.

If this team goes 2-3 the rest of the way to finish 7-5 and then gets a bowl win, will we consider the season a reasonable success at 8-5?
I probably will. 8-5 with a bowl win would be a pretty good finish for this team. I am hoping for better than that, of course, but anything less than that would be a real disappointment, to be honest.
Beat Kentucky and A&M or Arkansas and you are there. If they can beat all 3, that would be a bonus and would set up well for next year.
The 2008 team should have beaten Arkansas to go 8-4 in the regular season.

2014
And I think the future looks brighter from mid-season 2014 than it did from mid-season 2008.

Not sure if serious....you must have been in the 7th grade back then and not paying attention.

That was never the question....the issue was the pick six, and the porous defense. This defense is light years ahead of that defense...and getting better.

Again, not sure if serious. LSU has already played the two most prolific offenses and imo the two best teams in the conference. Ole Miss has played neither....Alabama has played neither....
This team will finish the year better than 2008...only because the defense will continue to improve....and I'd rather have a strong defense any day of the week, than no defense, and a decent offense.

The defense in 2008 was the only thing that didn't completely reek. Even then, this team this year has so many problems I can't point to one unit and say, meh, they're pretty good. They all stink.

Now I know you are trolling. That D was absolutely horrible.

idk man. two defensive coordinators, gave up 50+ points twice, gave up 31 to Ole Miss, Arkansas and...Troy

you need to rewatch the florida and georgia games from that year. The run d was horrible

The 2008 defense gave up 335 yards per game. It was bad, but not absolutely horrible. It was the 18 INTs and all the pick 6's that made things look worse. Florida and Georgia reamed that defense, but overall, it was not horrible.

Good question. I think this years' secondary would be good for at least a couple of picks, but that 2008 OLine would've blown this years' defensive line off the ball and made huge holes for Charles Scott and Keiland.
In the end though the 2014 coaching staff >>> 2008 coaching staff. Crowton and Malveto would've managed to shoot themselves in the foot somehow. 2014 wins.

2008 wins by 2 possessions

Still too early to tell, but I'd lean to the 2008 team being a better group.
If you go back an look at the schedule it wasn't until LSU heartbreaking loss to #1 Alabama that the wheels really fell off. That year they were crushed by UF which was the worst defeat we've seen a Les Miles LSU suffer until AU this year. Even in that game though there were moments in the first half where LSU showed some life to try to get back into the game. Same with UGA that year.
This year LSU was completely overwhelmed against MSU until the Bulldogs inexplicably crapped all over themselves late in the 4th. AU was a disaster that was over on the 2nd play of the game.
Both the 2008 and 2014 (thus far) defenses were bad, but there were times 2008's D made some stops. This group (absent the ball bouncing their way a few times last week) has done very little on defense to stop anybody with a pulse. 2014's team has plenty of time and opportunity to improve, but right now, this looks like the worst LSU team since 1999
