I read somewhere that Cumberland best offensive play was minus 3 yards. Legend says a Cumberland player apparently went to the wrong sideline on purpose. When asked to go back to the proper side he said:" no way, if I do that they will put me back in the game."

This was probably true because the whole team was just frat boys trying to help keep the school from being sued by GT for breach of contract. 10 days before the game Cumberland had no team.

Georgia Tech should be embarrassed to claim that game. It was a disgusting show of poor sportsmanship and lack of class.

apparently they saw it as revenge for the baseball team (which Heisman was also the HC of)... which had lost 22-0 to Cumberland the season prior

amid allegations the CU baseball team used pros as ringers

you can see the numerical significance of 222-0 compared to the 22-0 baseball score

You know better than that, Cheer. Not the oldest, just the smartest.

This and the fact Heisman was the first paid football coach, $2,250 a year plus received 30% of the gate. Previously Heisman criticized coaches for running up the score but later realized attendance increased after blow-out wins no matter the opponent. He won big at Tech but the world of football caught up to him after his days at Tech and he never did much on several teams he coached. The main reason his name is on the trophy is he was a president of the Down Town Athletic club when he died.

I agree with that,it doesn't excuse Heisman for forcing the game to be played. There really was no proof he never receive the letter from Cumberland announcing the end of football at their school almost a year earlier and all the other schools on the schedules knew Cumberland had disbanded. It was in the news.
