They played at the Lakefront? Was that a somewhat regular practice for big games then?

No. We played Georgetown and Notre Dame in the Superdome in 89 then 90. Not really sure why that game was at Lakefront.

Can't remember the year, right after Shaq left, when LSU played Okie State and Big Country at the Lakefront. Got the win and cracked the top 25.

I was at this game, in the basketball band. I think Dale was interested in maintaining a recruiting presence in New Orleans, which led to the location agreement for neutral site game. Think of it the same as LSU playing Wisconsin in Houston.
Not as good a crowd as we would have had in Deaf Dome, but it was fun. We blew their doors off all night long. The Sooners, who would end up losing in the NCAA Final to Danny Manning led Kansas, were never in this game. Best blow-out I can remember.
