I've heard LSU had the #1 class.

Then:

There's a Bama bump which allows sites owned by Bama alums to fit their subscription requests.

And now, tOSU now has the #1 class.

Is it ESPN because that's who MOST people have heard of? Or who has the final say so in the number one recruiting class.

shite for all we know, Bama is just claiming this shite.

1. ESPN is non biased. We have and will retain the best class here

2. 247 is owned and operated by a Bama fan. They put out rankings to appease their followers.

The overall success of the recruiting class on the field has the final say...

That's a great point. But with all of these recruiting services and ESPN; there really isn't a clear cut way to decide.

Here is all you need to know. LSU is bringing in an absolutely LOADED class of players. This class isn't good. It's utterly fantastic. The Tigers got a ton of talent at need positions.

Your best bet is to take a look at the 247sports Composite team rankings. It averages all 4 recruiting services to determine a consensus winner.

As far as this year, I vote ESPN, despite the way everyone slags them. They have largely not destroyed people's ratings after they've chosen a school this year. In prior years I've found them to be more guilty of knocking people out of the top 10 or out of being #1 at their position as soon as they chose a school.

We keeping getting caught up in the #1 class ego trip. Fact of the matter is this - if we maintain Fowler, and sign Mullen and Fulton, we will have the most ESPN 300 prospects in a single class ever. ESPN will blast this fact all day long and during Sportscenter.

With that being said, pulling them in will make this arguably the best class in LSU history. If we are ranked #10 on any service or #1, it won't discount that fact.

Everyone wants to follow the measurables and metrics, and those only matter on the field of play on Saturdays.

Take it from someone who has followed recruiting for a very long time. Class rankings are good indicators of how good or bad a class is. But having the "#1 class" doesn't mean much. Usually the difference between each class in the top 5 is negligible. It's really about filling needs, getting a few guys who can be studs and a few program guys in each class.
Some five stars will be busts, there will be one or two guys that don't qualify and four or five that transfer that never played. It happens to every single class. Then there will be a 3 star like Tyson Jackson who turns into a top 5 pick.

This is a very good class with a ton of defensive talent that is very much needed. Take it as such regardless of "rank".

This. We can name countless Tigers that were rated below 4 stars that would shock the casual fan as to their rating out of high school.

You do realize the difference from 1 and 3 are pretty much nothing. Pretty much the top 10 programs in recruiting every year are all winners.

ESPN is the worst recruiting site.

Wrong. 247 is run by a Bama alum... Look it up.

Here's the reality. No one knows which service will get the class right, HOWEVER tomorrow ESPN will have 100 times the coverage as the others

247 has their own set of rankings independent of the Composite rankings. The composite averages ESPN, Scout, Rivals, and 247. I think most people who keep up with recruiting would agree that the 247 format is the best in the industry. They're the industry leaders, regardless of fanbase.

Also, it is not run by a Bama Alum. It was founded by Shannon Terry, who is the only reason ESPN felt it necessary to get into the recruiting game - because of how much money recruiting services were generating. Shannon did not graduate from UA, but did grow up a Bama fan. He's lived in Tennessee most of his life. He recently sold 247sports to CBS for a shite ton of money, in the same fashion he sold Rivals to Yahoo. He wasn't able to do that just because Bama fans buy a lot of subscriptions.

Just for the record. He also co-founded BamaOnline and it is the biggest subscription-based college football fan site on the internet.

Also, for the record, I don't think Shannon Terry has anything to do with such machinations.
