Do you like it or not? Do you think it was a good or bad move?

I gotta say I like the idea of what they are trying to do, but how it came together kind of sucks. The Division II bracket is ridiculous!!! U High, Curtis, Evangel, Parkview, Notre Dame and St. Thomas More all in one bracket!!! That's a lot of talented teams. I think that bracket is hands down the toughest one, with plenty of prized recruits across it. I think they need to rename the Division I bracket to "The Catholic League plus a few". What all do you guys think?

don't like it. some select schools can lose every game and still make the playoffs. Gives no credibilty to going to the playoffs in that instance.

I agree. I coached at Christian Life for a year and 1A was already thin enough on teams. We could have made the playoffs at 2 and 8 haha When they split the system, it only thinned out the field more, making horrible teams eligible because they simply needed teams to fill spots and create a full bracket.

ProjectP, since the playoff system has a lot of LSUs recruits/prospects, I left it in here. Plus I wanted actual input. I'm sure the thread would have died in the More Sports Board and again, the subject can be expanded to cover specific recruits so I placed it here.

the new playoffs is crap! this is all because the public schools are mad at John Curtis and Evangel. Meanwhile, Barbe and West Monroe are two of the biggest recruiting schools along with them, and not one word is said.

i have noticed something, private schools support their teams with fans in the stands, while a lot of these smaller towns don't go out to the games, especially if it's out of town. Money is made at the gate, and the private schools will get richer playing each other, while the public schools are cutting their own noses off to spite them.

I don't know anyone who approves of this new system, outside of the LHSAA people.

Yeah I think the idea was good but the execution was poor. And the state title games are 12/12-12/14 I believe. Here is the LHSAA website with the brackets. LHSAA Playoff Brackets

It's absolutely ridiculous to have 9 state champions in such a small state. It's especially dumb when you consider that some playoff brackets have 10 teams....

Don't worry, the LHSAA will either have to change it back or the private schools will bolt.

The Division I bracket is laughable. 6 of the 10 teams are Catholic league teams haha Why not just have that district play for the state title and leave everyone else to the 5A bracket? Still can't get over how stacked the Division II bracket is. That literally has last years 2A title winner and runner up, 3A title winner and runner up, and a few other semi-finalist teams from 2A and 3A.

To make a change at this juncture is to suggest that there has been something wrong with the previous system for the last 30-40 years. I'm of the opinion that there was nothing wrong with the previous system. Any system that makes it possible for a team with a losing record to make the playoffs is broken system to start with. It seems that in some cases, all a school has to do is field a team and it qualifies for the playoffs. If that's the case, why even have a playoff?

You have some private schools with 1 or 2 wins all year that are in the playoffs. That is ridiculous. you havent earned the right to be in the playoffs with a record like that. No sense of acheivement in it anymore. Anybody can go to the playoffs

It's a freaking joke. Teams opting out, so bye games are scattered throughout, divisions where every team gets in, winless or not. A complete farce, and I hope Winnfield gets their asses kicked early so I can LOL at the witch that caused all this.

Couldnt agree more. When I coached we had no business even being in a playoff race being 2 and 8. That is a joke. I think something needed to be done to separate the football powerhouses from the public schools. My dad grew up in Vinton, LA, which is a 2A. How the hell does one honestly expect a Vinton team to ever compete with Episcopal, Calvary Baptist or even Newman (their 7 seeded select counterpart)? Something needed to be done but this system was way off target. The powerhouses need to be at one level and the generic public schools need to be in another. But realistically, Louisiana does not have enough teams overall to fully impliment that system. I like the attempt by the LHSAA but the end result really missed.

I think private league should probably only be 2 leagues and think it should be done with all sports just look at what schools are winning everything every year and it's easy to see it's not fair towards the public school. Also I've been going to the dome the last 5 years and the private school teams honestly brings very few fans.
