What is the LSU basketball recruiting looking like?

This is probably the only thing keeping JJs job. He has done a great job at recruiting the few years he has been here.
I see we have 2 signed for next year and have 2 highly rate players going to WKU?
How good are the 2 players we have signed?
How big of a deal is it to lose the 2 going to WKU?
Is there anyone else on our radar?
How many can we pick up this season? I'm assuming Blankeny is gone. Is Victor a senior?

Jones is not a good recruiter. We signed 5 prospects last year and was ranked the #50 team in the composite recruiting rankings.

The two we signed - Brandon Rachal and Galen Alexander - are national top 100 rated players. They project to be solid college players, but not one and done types. Rachal is known as a tremendous on-ball defender and athletic with a solid ability to score. Alexander I believe is also fairly athletic and can hit the outside to mid-range shot and drive and score. Rachal is a 6-5 two guard who can play the three; Alexander is a 6-6 small forward.
I have no idea who else is on the radar for this class. We need to sign a couple of bigs. We were in the picture for Mayan Kiir, a 6-9 three star power forward, but he just picked VCU over us, Illinois and Louisville.
The two that are going to WKU are major talents - Mitchell Robinson, a 6-11 center and Josh Anderson, a 6-4 two guard. Robinson is rated the sixth overall player in the 2017 class nationally by Rivals. Anderson is rated 43rd. So talent wise, big losses, although Robinson as a center prospect is a bigger loss than Anderson, as LSU doesn't seem to have a big problem finding capable shooting guards.
How many we can sign for 2017 depends on whether Reath and Victor leave early. Victor is a junior, but he could go. I'm assuming Blakeney leaves. Here's the roster:
1. Blakeney
2. Sampson
3. Jenkins
4. Hayward
5. Patterson
6. Mays
7. Sims
8. Victor
9. Reath
10. Apps
11. Bridgewater
12. Robinson
I'm not sure if the 13th scholarship is still open or if Graves, Eddlestone or Vial occupy one of those now. I'm guessing not but I could be wrong. But even if so, that may be just for this season. So let's say there are 12 'ships full right now and one available. Bridgewater is gone after this season, so that's two available. I'm thinking Blakeney leaves, so that's three. That leaves Reath and Victor. So, it appears we could give anywhere from three to five, and we've signed two. If Victor and Reath leave, it is critical that JJ land a couple of capable bigs. Not sure where he's getting them from at this point, though. Juco, maybe, but I don't know who's dwelling out there.

Eddlestone has the 13th scholly. I know we are recruiting some JUCO players but I'm not sure who else is on the radar.

I'm sure they're also keeping their eyes open for the mid year or post season transfer market.
There will be a ton of players available as usual. And As counterintuitive as it may sound, bringing in transfers can be a sort of program stabilizer if they have to redshirt a year before contributing. It can help with team chemistry.

I'm not sure if they will be able to take a mid year transfer since we allotted all 13. I could be wrong tho

The lack of LSU BBall coverage is pathetic. I understand the program isn't very good, but the lack of support from the fans, media and Administration is the reason.

Tiger Rag (free) and Scout (paid) do a nice job covering hoops. Just posted a Tiger Rag story yesterday on the Rant.

The 2016 recruiting class, regardless of ranking, is really good. LSU signed two JUCO players and one foreign player. These types of players are not really ranked and don't help your ranking.
Just looking at the players so far, the class is excellent.

Jones is a very good recruiter. It's easily his biggest strength & why he still has a job. That class is underrated. Reath, Mays, & Sims look like good players so far. Jenkins hasn't played yet & Hayward has plenty of potential. It's not an elite class like he's brought in before, but it's a good class with guys that should stay for their senior year.

Tony Farmer former High School All American is at Lee College and I think he would be a great fit into LSU next year as a Big who can score and rebound.

Well, he's at Lee, which is sort of a pipeline: GOOD
He's a convicted felon: BAD

They have people in public office who are convicted felons, based on other cases like his, he should have never went to jail. They used him as an example but you have to be accountable for your actions. I would take him in a heart beat, he has NBA potential.

In 2012, Farmer, then 18, was sentenced to three years in prison, for kidnapping, robbery, felonious assault and other crimes against an ex-girlfriend. He was arrested in April of 2012 shortly after his junior season at Garfield Heights ended. Farmer was released from prison on June 5.
Farmer
If he's got his act together and is reformed, I would take him as well. But, let's not be willfully ignorant of the case. He spent three years in prison for a violent domestic assault charge. He was denied admission by multiple JUNIOR COLLEGES who usually will take anyone.
If LSU did their homework and the coaches and compliance dept decided he was worthy, I would have no problem. However, there is no evidence LSU is even recruiting him.

Two solid players that will help LSU
LSU is not losing much from this year's team so if Blakeney goes that frees up 3 spots with Bridgewater and Eddlestone (walk on on schollie).
They will try and find a big to close out class and it might have to come from JC ranks.

That they're going to easily let one of the top players in the country for 2018 that plays 10 miles from campus go to Kentucky
