Not worried! I think in the end, We will have a top 3 recruiting class. We have good coaches and they will pull it together

I probably mispoke a little in my earlier post. I'm not worried that LSU will still land a good class. But come on, this time last year were talking about a historic college football recruiting class, and after the CRobs, Hooties, Thortons, Daubs(there's some others that I'm forgetting I'm sure) we'll fall short of that. I think a lot of us just got our hopes up.

Just have to not get wrapped up in stuff people say on here just because they have "sources."

What's it going to take for y'all to realize that this staff knows what they're doing?

As far as us having the least number of commits, we are targeting higher rated players, who usually want to wait to commit til later.

I see this bullshite on here all the time, but then I look at some of the competition:

17 of 28 5* per Rivals have committed. Over 60%.
Alabama has 3 5* commits.
A&M has 2
Auburn has 3
LSU has zero
Of the 3 5* prospects from LA, one has committed - to Alabama.

I'm not here to predict doom and gloom, but anyone who wants to pretend that what's happening with LSU's recruiting class this year isn't unusual is fooling themselves. Could it turn out to be the #1 class? Yes. Could it turn out to be a bust? Yes. That's why so many people are on pins and needles right now, it could go either way and we won't know until next year.

Good post.

ETA: I was too slow on the "submit" button. The rest of the cavalry will be here shortly to discredit your opinion

...so now I'm looking at 24/7, and whattya know, Alabama has FOUR 5* commits, and yep, still 24 total recruits. They're also not showing LSU with more than 14 recruits, none of which being 5*. And 24/7 shows LSU currently trailing 3 other SEC West teams. 24/7's composite recruit rankings shows 15 of 32 5* prospects have committed - almost half - while their own rankings show 17 of 32 5* prospects as being committed - just over half.

So no matter how you slice it, the statement "higher rated players, who usually want to wait to commit til later" is demonstrably false, and LSU is still lagging in the West as far as commitments go - WHICH IS UNUSUAL.

In 2003 I was new to the internet recruiting world.

The recruiting season was a nightmare. Miami and Coker invited like six or eight of the South Louisiana top notch recruits to Miami together, as a group, the weekend before signing day.

On Sunday afternoon reports started circulating that all had committed to Miami. If the Rant and this recruiting board had existed from Sunday afternoon to the Wednesday signing day, we rantards would have been hurting ourselves and mass hysteria running rampart.

All but one wound up signing with LSU including LaRon Landry.

LSU had the #1 rival recruiting class that year. So everyone just hang loose. This class will work out okay (If not mass hysteria and self-induced pain are still options).

This will be a #1 or #2 class without a doubt, I don't see how anyone who has actually followed this entire recruiting cycle can view it any differently.

yeah it's definitely unusual

but to some degree this has to be calculated by the staff. I mean if we really only had 14 commitments and the staff wasn't confident, we'd be offering the lower guys on our board like mad right now.

It seems like a bold move by Miles to drum up some recruiting momentum for the next few classes, but he could be playing with fire here

I sure hope we get all these players that are waiting, if not, we'll be getting Sun Belt level recruits to fill out the rest of this class.

Because those of us who have followed LSU recruiting, to one extent or another, since the early 80s know that anything can happen. Who knew Dalton Hilliard would end up better than Garry James? Very few. Who saw Harvey Williams coming? I didn't. It was obvious though that Warrick Dunn wasn't going to stick around BR when his mom got gunned down in the line of duty. But who could've seen Curley telling Marshal Faulk that he wouldn't play RB? I remember when Damien James signed with LSU over Michigan and it seemed like the fence was back in place around Louisiana (yes, that was BEFORE Saban). That signing was FAR from a sure thing.

Can it finish 1-2? Sure, it can also finish outside of the top 10.

I stick to my prediction of a great class, somewhere around #6.

I agree, I had thought of that. If Miles isn't getting some reassurance from some of these top recruits, he'd probably be shopping around.

But then again, he's Les Miles and has a want to roll the dice.

It just seems that generally we get some, we lose some, and still end up with a great class more often than not because of the level and depth of talent in Louisiana.

ya know there are kids that are committed to other top tier programs that would love to be at LSU but just didnt get the offer. If for some crazy reason this class doesnt pan out the way we hope, it will still be filled with very good SEC talent. we could offer kids committed to other SEC schools that would switch to us at the drop of a hat if we gave them an offer

yeah but when we don't get some there's almost always some smoke around us recruiting a backup plan

I'm not seeing it here except maybe with Dalvin Cook and Jamal Adams.. and let's face it, recruits of their caliber aren't backup plans for anyone

So, lets say on signing day we end up with 20 signees. What happens to those 7 or 8 unfilled spots? And before some of you tards blast me and say that aint gonna happen, this is just a hypothetical, but could always happen.

They go unfilled? What else? Maybe more count back next year if we are below the 85 man roster.
