I gotta say, I can't believe the NCAA is pushing these rule changes. Recruiting is about to get notched up 10x.

It's almost as if they're saying "frick it, this has gotten so out of hand that we can't do anything about it, so go ahead and do whatever you want to do."

That's basically what they're doing. There's so much shady business going around and it just turns into a he said she said battle that's almost impossible to prove. I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the conferences start issuing opposition to this too.

Best recruiting tool is the the players who just signed their national letters of intent were in 4th or 5th grade the last time a SEC team didn't win the national title. SO basically their entire football life has been spent knowing that the SEC wins the national championship every year.

Yea, I think you are right, there is so much grey area in recruiting on what is acceptable and whats not. It seems they are doing away with alot of the minor infractions because its become to hard for them to police.

The thing I don't like about this rule change is, what about the kids privacy. These kids won't have a break from all this recruiting crap. Most of these HS athletes are struggling to concentrate on academics already and now you will have these coaches calling them non stop.

There are stories about recruits receiving 100's of letters on a single day from one school just to get the recruit to notice the school and there is nothing against doing it. Well what do you think will happen when you can now make unlimited calls to these recruits?

This reeks of one person having a direct line to Mark Emmert. A guy that lives in the grey areas of the NCAA Rulebook. A guy that hired a Lawyer to work in hi Recruiting Office just this past December. Any idea who this may be???

The only thing that can explain what has been happening is the money. Schools have to have more money and there is no more available from the state money and TV money is big, big money.

Well if anyone should know about the SEC recruiting, it's Urban like he wasn't ever at Florida. He got out of Dodge there right before the shite hit the fan and the program collapsed. Suddenly his health is greatly improved and now he has a new coaching gig in Ohio and Big Ten and is crying about the terrible SEC schools. Give me a $%$&ing break.

Its not that they cant hang. Its the fact that there is no time off for a coach as it is right now and will be even less with these new rules. Its pretty ridiculous how vague the rules have become with this new policy.

And as mentioned before, these kids are smothered with coaches as it is now and then you want to change things to give unlimited access to calls and mail? Can you imagine the shite these kids are going to get in the mail now? Bama will have a friggin fathead made of every recruit out there.

It just opens the door to alot of shady shite and I agree with the coaches that are against it.

Did you read the article? Urban didnt criticize the SEC. He criticized the Big 10 and said they need to step it up.

The rules apply for everyone correct? So Urban isn't upset about the rules? He's just upset that other conferences are not stealing enough recruits from the Southeast?

It would be like a golfer complaining about course conditions...when all the golfers have to play under the same conditions.

The SEC is going to dominate college football and recruiting for a long long time...regardless of the rules...simply because the vast majority of talent comes from the gulf coast (Texas to Florida) and Georgia and SC also. That dynamic isn't changing soon. So good luck Urban and the rest of the NCAA.

While he did say that in the article, he has mentioned in recent interviews that he doesnt like the fact that it now almost makes it a requirement to constantly be in contact with kids for 3-4 years. He said that year after year you have to get on kids earlier and earlier just to have a chance at a kid. Hence, coaches having no time off at all.

I had the same thought. I understand the reasoning for the change but I think it's just gonna kick off a crazy arms race of recruiting now.

I can see it getting ridiculous - hiring people to stake out high schools and follow kids around and cheer for them at their games, and bidding wars to put high school coaches on retainer as 'consultants', etc.
