Mickeys a lot more athletic than Taz but nowhere near as polished player. Offensively it's not even comparable between the 2.

Martin is as much of a 5 as Mickey is a 3, which is NOT AT ALL.

In college Martin can play the 5 at 6'10".

I clearly said he's an NBA 4 though, and has the potential to be a pretty damn good one with his athleticism. He has come a LONG way in 3 years. NBA development could continue that.

Mickey is more comparable to Tasmin Mitchell in the sense that he's to slow to play the 3 & too short to match up w/ a lot of NBA 4's. (Admittedly, his defense is better than Taz, but his offense is not as developed). He really needs to stay another year

Taz had a pretty refined game, but didn't have the athletic explosiveness like Mickey.

Mickey is a tweener I agree. He will never be a great 3 IMO and is too small to play 4 unless he gains some muscle and doesn't lose his spring.

I don't think Mickey will ever be an NBA contributor for any long period of time. Its a shame too, because 4 more inches and he could be a lottery pick like a Tyrus.

Its truly idiot to think Mickey would come back next year and play wing on a team that will be overcrowded with guards.
he will not play the 3 in the NBA and he certainly wont play it in college.

Agree. But he won't be drafted this year. Period.

He is hurt, playing worse at the end of the year, and is the definition of a tweener.

I guess he could leave and make money in Europe if he doesn't want to be on a top 10 team that's on TV every week.

Never going too far if Malone is needed to get significant minutes. JJ has to sign another big.

Victor should help in this role. I know he's 6'8" but he's a solid big.

I agree though.

I disagree. If Malone keeps working he'll be serviceable next year and better the year after. If Geert Hammink can make all-SEC his Senior year there's hope for Malone. I would like another big, though.

I agree with you guys that he's a mediocre 3 AT BEST, and it doesn't bode well for a team that's so guard-heavy to ever put him at the 3. But like anyone in his situation, he's going to try and position himself as best as he can to make $$$$. his best bet at making a living in the NBA is developing into a 3. Why does everyone thing he takes so many deep jump shots?

He's an excellent college player. I've said it many times that he's one of those type of players Billy Donovan would get to stay 3-4 years. If Johnny is as good of a salesman as I think he is, he should be able to convey the message that it'd be incredibly wise to come back

However, I'm kind of in the party that's a little uneasy with his body language and intensity these past few weeks. I might not be anything more than being frustrated with a nagging injury, but you can't help but wonder if he's mailed it in for Europe or taking his chances with an agent and late 2nd round status. I don't think he'll be drafted though at this point, and maybe that's why he's frustrated

Your center doesn't matter if you have good guards. Just need serviceable post players and great guard play.

Victor is more than serviceable.

One of Malone or Robinson should be greatly improved. Never know, maybe both

You lose 80lbs by just dieting and see how your body reacts. Now go try to play SEC basketball

He will be a fricking beast next year no doubt.

Mickey should come back and play post. Unless he knows he is going to get at least $3M in guaranteed money it's not a wise long-term move. Other than Big Baby and Shaq what LSU player who left early fufilled his potential in the NBA? Stromile was right to leave because he got selected so high but he still didn't last. Tyrus, A. Randolph, even JOB probably all made mistakes leaving early. Big Baby and Shaq didn't even leave until after their junior years. He'd really help the team coming back as a starter in the post.

JOB III left after his junior year and he wasn't improving anything, fact is he was just a short PF.

Brandon Bass
Chris Jackson

No, they didn't. They made millions by leaving early. An extra year of college (lesser coaching and less practice time) was not going to make them better basketball players. Tyrus absolutely was not going to get picked any higher if he stayed a year. Same probably goes for Randolph, another lottery pick. JOBIII got a 3-year contract with 2 years ($1.45M) guaranteed. It's actually better for the player to go in the second round if they get a contract. They have a lot more leverage in negotiations on a second contract.

Uhh what? Thomas was drafted 4th overall and made $37million in his career. Randolph was drafted 14th overall and has made $11million. JOB was drafted early in the second round, wasn't going to go much higher, and has started some games this season.

Randolph is the only one that could've maybe benefitted from coming back, but I'm sure they're all fine with their decisions.

I agree. I misspoke as I didn't realize those guys made that much. Would Mickey be in that range of compensation if he came out early? Obviously, if he could make $11M, he should go (as I said, the minimum should be $3M). At this point, it doesn't appear he will even be drafted - although that could change if we go deep in the tourney. I really want Mickey to return.

No, they have a rookie wage scale now so they don't make close to what they used to anymore
