Is/was your dad an LSU fan? It's easy to be influenced at a young age when all you want to do is be like dad.
I have plenty of friends that are die hard fans of teams all over the place in all kinds of sports. Fell in love as kids bc of their parents and kept following.
And the more you follow a program the more attached you get
If you move out of state I'm fairly confident your son will be an LSU fan growing up watching them with you.
I don't know much about this specific instance but it wouldn't surprise me
