The Opening: Rashard Lawrence interview

Scout.com with the scoop
Rashard Lawrence, who has offers from national powers like Ohio State, Alabama, LSU, Florida State, Ole Miss, USC, Oregon, Stanford and many others, is already a top 10 prospect nationally on Scout. The Monroe (La.) Neville defensive tackle is a five-star defensive tackle, but improving at an event like Nike’s The Opening is his primary goal at the national showcase.
“It’s a blessing, coming out here to Oregon to compete with the best and see where you stack up,” he said. “It’s going to be good competition. I’m just trying to weigh myself and compete, to see where I am with the best players in the country.
“I want to work on pass-rushing. You spend a lot of time pass-rushing, so I try to get as much information as I can. The best coaches in America are here, so they can help with my pass-rush.”
On the recruiting front, most peg Lawrence as another Pelican State elite destined for the SEC West at the next level, but he says it’s a misconception and many other programs have a fighting chance.
“Absolutely. I have never said I have a favorite or anything, but they tag me as it,” he said. “I’m open right now, still weighing my options and looking around. I went to Ohio State recently, then ‘Bama camp and I’m going to Oregon and Washington after The Opening.”
In Tuscaloosa, there is plenty of familiarity. The Crimson Tide has recruited the Monroe-area very well of late and it’s helped with the 2016 elite’s comfort while on campus.
“It was good, I was with Cam Robinson, Cam Sims, Hootie (Laurence Jones) and Denzell Duval the whole time,” he said. “Just hanging around and getting a feel for them. I’ve developed a great relationship with coach (Billy) Napier and coach (Bo) Davis, so to get back on campus and see it all was good.
“I’m not really that, that close to them, but they’re some I can pick up the phone and ask them a question any time. Really Denzel and Cam Robinson for sure. Cam knows what it is like to be a lineman at Alabama, he knows what it takes, so talking to him is very helpful.”
got an uneasy feeling about this cat. Hopefully Coach O gets his guy!

Was he specifically asked about Bama? Was he asked about LSU?
In other words, did the person doing the interview direct him to talk so much about Bama or do he just volunteer the information without prompting?
My phone's acting A fool and links aren't opening for me at the moment.

he doesn't seem very stoked about talking to bama. he seems more irritated that people assume he'll stay in the sec. he may go to ohio st.

I hope those NoLa traitors are booed every time they go home. Hootie and Cam especially.

N. La. or North La. NEVER. NoLa, even with the lower and upper case it's too close to NOLA lol.

Meh, we are so so stacked with incoming talent, for some reason he doesn't seem a must get if he says he's more interested in others.
Let me be clear, I want and he is special
I guess all the bs from that area still burns. To think that maybe Cam Sims started 'll of this. Offer and we have all of those guys in house, imo
So I fully expect this guy to leave as well.

It remains to be seen but it almost seems some of the North La. guys think it is "in" to keave the state. I'm not hating on them, but there are cycles like this.

I'll be pissed if he goes to Bama. Leave it to Monroe.

When are we going to get the Duck Dynasty family on it?
Posted on 7/9/15 at 10:35 pm to Miganey
Gotta take the LA tech sign down with Phil in it first

Why are you sporting an aggy avi?
Posted on 7/9/15 at 11:11 pm to cas4t
Just changing it up for a little before football starts. I'll be back with something new LSU wise when football starts.

Pick one and stick with it

I went to LSU. Bet you didn't. Now I just try to bring a little class to Bama for a short period of time. It's not that hard.

Don't include Hootie and Cam in the same sentence. Cam was and still is a huge loss. In the end, Hootie came back and wanted LSU and LSU said no thanks. We had moved on to better things with J Adams...etc.

OSU needs a couple of DTs bad and LSU has like 2 higher on their board. Give us 1!
