Yeah, we have heard about it for years, with too many examples to list. But what's great is that there is finally a newer, better recruiting site out there - where we can actually get more objective ranking info. Thank God for 247 Sports!!!! We can now give concise examples of Rivals having Bama commits artificially higher than they deserve.

So here we go; Bama's 2013 commit list on both sites:

Ranking on Rivals / Ranking on 247
OJ Howard ----- 7 / 11 --- J Allen
J Allen ---------- 13 / 12 --- D Henry

A Tenpenny --- 37 / 18 --- R Foster
A Stewart ----- 46 / 20 --- OJ Howard

T Jones ------ 59 / 51 --- A Tenpenny
D Henry ------ 70 / 54 --- G Hill

R Foster ----- 74 / 55 --- D Paige
G Hill --------- 75 / 64 --- T Jones

T Williams --- 89 / 67 --- A Stewart
M Smith ----- 130 / 73 --- T Williams

C Bateman --- 189 / 87 --- C Bateman
B Bozeman --- 197 / 115 --- A Averett

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx / 121 --- M Smith
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx / 145 --- J Cook

+++++++++++++++++++++++

On Rivals, there are 2 Bama commits before the 1st LSU commit.
On 247, there are 7 Bama commits before the 2nd LSU commit.

On Rivals, both LSU Quarterback commits are rated much higher than Bama's #1 guy (Bateman).
On 247, Bateman is comfortably higher than both of LSU guys (and Jennings isn't even in the Top-247).

On Rivals, Bama has 9 commits listed in the Top-120.
On 247, Bama has 13 commits in the Top-120.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Perhaps this 2013 class is an anomaly. And of course, Rivals still has an opportunity to bump up all of Bama's players.

But on the surface, it actually appears that the dreaded "Bama Bias" has followed the Bama bigwigs from Rivals to where they set up shop at 247.

Wouldnt this make the case that 247 favors Bama and not Rivals?

Rivals hasn't updated their list yet. I'll reread in one week.

Or we can just accept that the the best program in college football actually gets the best recruits.

Yep, this is true (and I mentioned as much in my OP). Plus, I fully expect the tailback from Florida (Henry) will get a sizable bump (perhaps into 5-star range).

But there is little chance that the final Rivals list will end up looking as pro-Bama as this 247 list.

I care more about our staffs ability to find that 2 or 3 star gem that goes unseen Hester, Matthieu, etc. and turn them into real producers. I take much more interest in that story than the 5 star success stud.

Some of the most exciting pro players are from places I've never heard of or teams not in the top 10

If I am not mistaken, 247 was started by the same Gumps that started Rivals (and eventually sold out to yahoo). They waited for the non-compete to expire and started 247.

Didn't the Bama guy who started Rivals leave to create 247? Clearly both sites are tainted

No, the fina paragraph was there from the start. The edits took place because I tried to line up the data better.

And the final edit was my overlooking T White in the original post (ranked in Top-10 on 247) - and so I had to modify the text in my summary.

I guess Im a dumbfrick then. Is the top paragraph sarcastic? If so I understand. If not, Ive got some serious issues.

To be honest, the top paragrph relects the legitimate reason for the thread. We all keep reading about the Rivals bias for Bama - to the point to where we are almost immune to it.

So, I wanted to put some hard numbers to it. You could never use ESPN or Scout as a comparison, because their rankings have always been a joke. So, until 247 came along, there was no way to show Rivals' bias towards Bama (as I think we all respect the 247 guys a lot).

So, beyond the first paragraph, it was just a case of me being genuinely surprised at the findings (particularly after placing them side-by-side for easy comparison).

So, is the 1st paragraph sarcasm??? I guess, to some extent. And at this point, it 100% looks like it. But it wasn't originally intended to be.

When I read the "thank God for 247" I was thinking it was a pro 247 thread etc...

This argument would have so much more validity if Bama's highly ranked recruiting classes didn't perform well on the field. They do, though. Bama has been ranked #1 in recruiting 4 of past 5 years and they've been #1 on the field in 3 of last 4 years. Seems like the rankings have been fairly accurate to me.
