Nice article and nice bump, Pauldean.

quote:

“TCU is a place I’d like to go,” Lawson said. “They talked to me last spring. And there’s Louisiana Tech, closer to home. Mississippi State is another school I talked with before. “I’ve talked to coach Brick (Haley, LSU assistant) some, and I’ve talked to coach (Les) Miles twice. My family is pretty ticked off.

I feel bad for the guy...I would be pissed off as well at how the situation played out....I know this happens at a lot of schools but I hate it.

Article talks a bit about college football as a business. The problem is its not a business for these kids. I'd be ticked, and my dad would be ticked too.

Best of luck to Tevin and I hope he makes the best decision for him...

I feel bad for him as well, no doubt. But if he could not quailify (or at that was the speculation due to the classes not get proper credit) then shouldn't he also understand that this was the issue and understand that they couldn't take a kid that couldn't get to school???

Sounds like the both parties had a different interpretation on what courses is acceptable. He is a good player in a position of need but his scholarship most likely ended up going to Duke Riley who doesn't play a position of need but still a good addition.

Well, it was LSU's guess that the NCAA would not allow the class and declare him ineligible. No one knows for certain. I guess staff wasn't gong to take that risk.

They should think of it that way.

It's why I don't have a tremendous problem with a kid waiting until the last minute to pick a school, etc.

The class has passed the clearing house multiple times with other student athletes in LP. The real story is that LSU had someone else they felt was better and gave the scholly to that athlete, which is crappy but I get that it's a buisness too. (still crappy though) Has nothing to do with grades no matter what they say.

Selfishly I hope Lawson takes the grey shirt at LSU. He's a good young man so I hope he does what he feels is best for him.

Lawson won't take a greyshirt if he feels that LSU treated him badly

what's everyones opinoin about this is lsu at fault? or did the student/athlete have ample time to get his grades in order? if lsu offered - and i guess by all indications they did - was it contigent on grades being in order? idnk

My opinion is that his grades are fine and LSU used it as an excuse to pull his offer because they were tight on spaces and thought they had a chance to land bigger fish.

well in that case its pretty crappy of them - even though i bleed purple and gold, if les miles son/daughter gets offered a scholly to a school in the future - he would expect them to honor their committment.

Really? So they are not thinking that college ball may ultimately lead to the pros and millions of dollars?

Really?
