Actually, empirical evidence shows that five stars have approximately a 1/15-1/20 chance of becoming All-Americans, while 3 stars have approximately a 1/150 - 1/200 chance of becoming All-Americans at the D-1A level. Similarly, a much greater percentage of five stars are drafted. Definitely exceptions to the rule, but you want to live and die with the rule.

This. Five stars don't guarantee success but they they certainly increase the chances of it.

Hmmm - Serious question, Does this take into account there are X 5*, XX 4* and XXX 3* (Obviously there are way more 3* than 5*)

Yeah, it does. That's essentially the point. The very small pool of five stars produces as many or more All-Americans than the vast pool of three stars. Hence, if you could only pick twenty five players each year, you'd be better off on a statistical basis choosing exclusively five stars. I'll put it to you this way. Imagine you had to choose a scrap of paper from one of two boxes. Each scrap of paper has a monetary amount printed on it. The amount is either one million dollars or one dollar. Would you choose from the box with one hundred and fifty total scraps, ten of which had the million dollar figure, or from a box containing FOUR THOUSAND scraps, twenty of which had the one million dollar figure? Obviously your chances are much better with the smaller box. And if I gave you twenty five picks, you'd be best off devoting them all to the smaller box. Similarly, it's best to stack your class with five stars.

it also depends on the position. a 5 star dual threat qb (cam or tebow type) is better than any 5 star safety. it depends on how close they play to ball (dt or rb more valuable than wr or cb)

you REALLY want 5 star guys that can impact almost every play. thus, freak johnson WAY, WAY more valuable than lc.
