Next season developing Sunseri really will need to be a priority for sure.

What are you hearing?

These things have always happened under us. A little surprised to see Smith leave but maybe playing more meant more to her, I can understand. It's ashame she was a really good pitcher.

Need to really string out a lot of the hitting issues this off season. If hitting is capable next season, we have another good chance to go back to OKC.

Hearing more discord among the players for whatever reason. I'm not sure if it's about playing time or whatever. There are obviously complaints about the hitting and not changing the line-up. I feel like Beth is really smart and doesn't belittle but would uplift her players. That's my gut though. She's the HC for a reason. Maybe she just knows stuff we don't. We do need another catcher. Hopefully Cunningham asunder I can come in bc as far as I know a transfer would have to sit out. Gorsuch needs to get past the mental thing bc she's now #2 if you call Carley and Allie 1 and 1A. That's where Syd leaving hurts us. I hear MB was great before her injury though so hopefully she can get past it mentally. Hitting will be key though. Howie has some work to do!

I would also love if SJay was our grad asst to mentor our younger catchers. Her and Carley's "confidence" needs to rub off on some of our younger players.

I used to be a coach after my playing days were over. I had enough crappy coaches to know that if I ever became a coach, I would play as many players as I could withouth throwing the game away.

Sometimes a coach needs to try and play her reserve players like in midweek games or games that we have a big lead in.

All players need to get some experience sitting out a game. Serret has played every single inning I believe since she got here... Landry and Griggs, Jaquish.. a lot of them could have come out in a late inning and reserves sent to play.

Not counting the pinch runners, LSU uses about the fewest number of players in a game, in comparison to other teams.

As for the new recruits coming in, you have to remember Beth is probably going to lean toward the upperclassman in competition for a position. Andrews and Griggs will definitely start, so will Doyle, Springfield, Sanchez and Serret. We have an opening for a catcher, a DP, and a right fielder. The DP is most likely going to be Dawson, and if it was me, I'd have her and Sanchez alternate for 2nd base and DP.

If my guesses are right, and Cunningham becomes the catcher, we will only have one Freshman starter next year, and that is a “maybe”.

I know nothing about recruting, and appreciate Tigerbait's efforts and time spent on keeping us informed, or, “wellinformed”.

If I have time tomorrow I will redo the thread I started about the loss of seniors and just leave it at that. If yall wanna come post about recruits, fine. I had ulnar nerve release surgery at the elbow, they grinded my bone down, and I am in a bit of pain, typing with one finger.

The last thing you want is SJay to be their "mentor"

Yes, Smith & Satchell both left. Truth is, more want to, but aren't able to, or think they can change their situation here. I've been told there is a lot of discord on the team and it's been there for 2 years. It's a testament to the players abilities they've done what they have these last 2 years.

Alissa Dalton might be transferring in. Talent is not a question with her, but there's a reason she was released from OU a month ago I think it was?

I highly doubt Cunningham becomes the starting catcher. There is a freshman and Dalton was catching again at OU. Smith & Satchell leaving just opened up a good amount of money I'm sure, so a transfer catcher is highly likely

I've been told there are some issues with the way certain players are treated vs others. Was also told it wasn't playing time that caused Smith to leave, but it was the primary thing for Satchell. Good luck to both of them.

Hearing there could be a 3rd transfer out.

The transfer wouldn't have to sit out? And why wouldn't you want SJ around longer?

I'm happy you're confident in our team. If you wish to assess chances to have further success, it's necessary to evaluate current position. This team is less athletic than those advancing. A pitcher that cannot field a bunt is a problem. An outfielder that allows runners to advance on errant throws is a problem. Yes, I watch and have watched. You can get away with this when playing a lesser opponent, but not the big girls.

Why is in not ok to evaluate a women's sport? Be honest.

Her talent is not in question. Her being liked enough by her former teammates enough to listen is though.

Transfers only have to sit within conference or if they go to a school the HC has restricted them from, at least in softball.

I would say Oregon was more athletic, but I don't know about OK and UF. I think personally think our girls are pretty much ok. It seems to be the hitting that's the problem which may be more mental from all the problems brewing behind the scenes is what I'm starting to see. THAT needs to next fixed. Talent only gets you so far. Playing as a team and relying on one another know the next person up has your back would get this team ever further. That part...coaching needs to fix asap!

I also think Syd got enough playing time to stay and didn't make sense to me.

Sorry, but how do you think we're "ok" with FLA? that game was a clinic, and we should use the results to demonstrate our current position. That shouldn't hurt feelings. If we wish to continue to improve, it's an incumbent responsibility.

I'm talking athletic-wise. Not playing-wise. There's definitely a difference there. The playing part is what coaching needs to fix

Reading the OU boards, I sure hope Dalton has fixed her problems or we will continue to have our own problems

This is my look on 2018 LSU softball

LF: Aaliyah Andrews
CF: Emily Griggs
RF: Taryn Antoine
1B: Sydney Springfield or Amanda Doyle
2B: Nicky Dawson? Shemiah Sanchez?
3B: Amanda Doyle? Shemiah Sanchez?
SS: Amber Serrett
C: Cunningham? Caccamise? Transfer?
DP: ?

Potential Lineups #1 ( This is the lineup I would like to see)

1.) So. Aaliyah Andrews LF
2.) Fr. Taryn Antoine RF
3.) So. Amanda Doyle 3B
4.) So. Sydney Springfield 1B
5.) Sr. Emily Griggs CF
6.) Fr. Shelby Sunseri DP
7.) So. Michal Cunningham C
8.) Jr. Amber Serrett SS
9.) So. Nicky Dawson 2B

Analysis: I like this lineup because it is a good mix between speed and power. Something that I did not notice was that the 2018 team is EXTREMELY YOUNG. Only 2 (Maybe 3, Shemiah Sanchez) upperclassmen might be in the lineup. I think that 2017 Shemiah Sanchez is like 2016 Elyse Thornhill. I think that there are better players on this team. If Shemiah starts, I hope that it is at DP. With everything she goes through, if she could mostly focus on her offense, I think she could be a .320, 5 HR type player. I preferred moving Emily Griggs down in the order because if she was left leading off, we woukd have too many slappers bunched up. However, I could see the slappers being lined up 8-2 like
8.) Taryn Antoine
9.) Nicky Dawson
1.) Emiky Griggs or Aaliyah Andrews
2.) Aaliyah Andrewsoir Emiky Griggs

Pitching Staff:
1A: Carley Hoover
1B: Allie Walljasper
2: Maribeth Gorsuch
3: Shelby Sunseri

This was much easier than the lineup. We are gonna stick with the fire and ice combo of Hoover and Walljasper. However, I think that Gorsuch and Sunseri will get innings to prepare them for 2019

Transfers:
I don't know much about Transfers, but I know that Oklahoma has some candidates. Oklahoma return every starter except one and has a top recruiting class coming in. Alissa Dalton, Vanessa Taukeiaho, and Melissa Olmos. Alissa and Vanessa both got at bats, but did not start that often towards the end of the year. Paige Parker even started taking at bats away from them. There is only one vacant spot in the Oklahoma lineup and them two plus freshmen will be fighting for that spot. Melissa Olmos was a top recruit coming out of High school but got very few to no innings at Oklahoma behind four other pitchers who are all returning.

After this year, she would have been #1

doesn't surprise me at all honestly. she wasn't waiting 3 years to be #1. a freshie could have passed her up like the way the current two passed up baylee and kelsey. Baylee actually stayed a year too long and she lost out on playing time her junior year. The incoming freshman in the 2018 and 2019 season will have huge opportunities. They will have a shot to pitch 3 or even 4 years. MAribeth will have two once carley and Allie are gone.

What I'm not seeing in this entire thread is anything about future recruiting in regards to pitching. Who's going to be on the mound once Hoover and Walljasper leave in a couple of years? I live here in Lafayette and the ULL people have been crowing about how our reign at the top of the state is over and that they'll be taking over. They claim that they're outrecruiting us and that they have the best high school pitcher in the state of Texas coming to Lafayette. Is this true? Anyone know about the pitching situation for LSU? Replies would be appreciated. Thanks.

there's your problem, some of these people are delusional. They have been saying this for years but it's not even true at all. LSU tends to recruit way more nationally than the cajuns.

LSU is out recruiting the Cajuns and it's not even close.

Sunseri is a top ten pitcher coming out of HS. She should step in this season and see significant time, even start many SEC games if she transitions like many think.

We add Wickersham next year and she's a top 50 player. Throws extremely hard.

I heard we might bring in a transfer sometime in the future as well. Beth had been through this before. We added Czechner years ago.
I'm sure they have something planned, it's not like we don't know this is coming.

This recruiting update was just on random girls comitted to us. I usually do updates with analysis of each recruiting clsss
