I just wouldn’t expect much when he has to line up vs SEC lineman.

I would speculate on that also, however, he held his own vs. Ole Miss OL, so he should be fine.

I've seen Jenkins play a lot. I am a fan, not a scout or his family, so I never solely focused on watching him play. He has been a high impact player for Tulane the past two seasons.

If the LSU scouts, analysts, and coaches think that he would be an asset to the team, there is not a poster on here who can legitimately dispute their analysis.

He made a play in the biggest spot in his career. ESPN Video of Cotton Bowl Safety

I've heard opinions in football OPs that this is going to be a long season because the offense will move backwards without 3 1st round picks including a generational player, defense will be a headache again, and the brutal schedule. The opinion I've heard most is DL is going to be the weakness of the team.

Doesn't mean they're right and hopefully they're not. It's just an opinion. I do think in my own opinion that if some younger players develop especially at DB this defense may surprise. I honestly don't know what LSU was thinking with the DL though and why they didn't pursue this much harder in the transfer portal.

Just curious. Does PFF take into account if a player eats up more blockers or double teams? If Jenkins is Tulane's best DT he likely receives the most attention from the offensive scheme.

What “once in 20 years” player did LSU have?

I would say Jayden Daniels absolutely was it's just LSU has been lucky enough to somehow have 2 generational players in Burrow and Daniels in such a short span. You will not realize how good he was until you see Nuss this year and that's not a knock on Nuss. JD did so many little things the average person does not see that made him incredible.

“Generational” means the best player in a generation, which is 20-25 years in the sport. Not just at one school.

I think you could make that argument for him and Burrow in their respective styles for QB play. Statistically, they're both pretty off the charts when compared to other QBs the past 20 years. LSU has been extremely lucky with QBs lately.

He would absolutely be a starter

PFF is a really dumb way to determine if somebody is actually good. I’ll go find the video and post it later of NFL coaches and players shitting on it bc the guys doing the breakdowns don’t know the what the assignment of that player was especially on defense. How can you grade if I guy had a successful snap if you aren’t sure of their assignment.

PFF correlates with draft position and all-conference selections. That said it is a tool you pair it with stats/accolades to form a more educated opinion

JJ Watt stated in that interview that it’s not just kinda off at times. He said that the PFF grades would be night and day from the coaches grades. And I assure the coaches know more than the pff guys.

That is anecdotal evidence from someone who is already biased

Well the DL has been a weakness for a while now. The only difference is that in the last few offseasons people hype up the DL because on paper, they should be a strength. then the season rolls around and the DL gets pushed around and can't get pressure. Everyone gets pissed about it. Its been like clockwork. Maybe now with no expectations and a proven good coach, we'll have at least decent DL play.

Well, the issue with DL now is they weren't good last year and it's the same guys only minus an all-american with less depth that they didn't address enough in the portal.

I guess what BK and staff is hoping here is that coaching was the major issue last year and with 2 great coaches now they might be able to reach potential.

Manziel and RG3 both had comparable numbers to Daniels.

Jayden Daniels was a really good college QB.

Not generational. That word means nothing if you keep using it every couple of years.
