Might be Germans, but I haven't seen any discussion for it specifically. His tape shows good zone presence, he's a good tackler, and great at forcing turnovers. Seeing how deep we are at CB and ? At SS, I think it'd be interesting to try out there.

I've seen several people post that here...I wonder if it's a wise decision for long term though. If he's really a top rated corner, why waste him at safety?

Learn the nickel spot and mature into safety role.

LSU likes big corners so he could stick there imo. I imagine he'll move all over the place if he's capable, though.

Didn't he lose his fifth star because he struggled at the under armour game supposedly? I just watch him playing off in zone is when he makes plays.

We should just use him exactly how we did Tyrann Mathieu

Well, he lost all of his stars when he signed his LOI. He's got to come to work and earn his spot.

He will initially work in the nickel, dime packages. The thought is that he would grow into a safety down the road. I personally don't think he will ever line up as the boundary or field corner. My $.02

I dont either, with Toliver, Donte and Fulton theyll hold that down, Saivion is more a HB7 type player, Safety / Slot hybrid

He's radically different from Mathieu. He's bigger, not nearly as quick, and shows no signs of Mathieu's preternatural ability to zone in on the football.

Yeah, I think a better comparison would be Brandon Taylor. Three year starter at safety for LSU that was recruited as a cornerback. And actually, I think Smith could start as a true freshman in that role ("cover" safety alongside Adams).

If you compare their high school film....we'll have to agree to disagree...
Now if for some reason you're comparing Saivion's HS film to Mathieu's LSU Sophomore year film, then yea he'll look different.
Saivion had an awful lot of defensive TD's to have "no signs of Mathieus preternatural ability to zone in on the football."

I see Savion as a better version of Jalen Mills. Begin at CB and moving to Safety. We are targeting more shutdown corners in 2017 as well

Saivion is obviously bigger than Mathieu and not as fast, but he has playmaking ability. He wont play outside. He'll be a slot / safety ball hawk. Mills is a good comparison, but I think he has better instincts than Mills

His film from hs shows him playing mostly safety. Seems natural for him ton be there. He is also not a burner.

Cole: small edit to your comment. Savion is actually faster than Tyrann but not nearly as quick

I think he ends up at Safety. If you compare his film to our other CBs you'll notice that he's a little stiffer and his hips are a tad tighter. I think he could be a good Corner but I think he could be a great Safety.

I think Raymond will try him out everywhere. Fact of the matter is, he'll shine on the field whatever position he ends up at. Helps that he is an EE and will get the spring reps.

I've thought the complete opposite for two years now. In fact, the one thing that has always jumped out at me was how he has a rare instinct for the football like Mathieu.
