Some chatter here that DB recruiting is going to suffer because the Jalens aren't that good and LSU's secondary has been shredded.

With Rashard Robinson and Tre'Davius White starting and Jalen Mills moving to Nickel, if the secondary improves and these guys play well, does that help with DB recruiting?

Does it affect Hootie, if he is still on the fence?

It seems like the scenario we have setting up over the next month with RR and TW stepping up is a HUGE selling point for Hootie and Adoree Jackson and other top DB recruits: If you are good, you will play and make a difference right away. If you aren't you will lose your spot. Come to LSU and prove yourself.

Thoughts?

Could also hurt recruiting if they lock down the starting spots for the two seasons. All depends on the guy being recruiting and what he wants, there is no right answer.

Jalen Mills started last year and looked pretty good as a true freshman. Someone better came in and took his spot.

Safety play has been the weak link. It should prove to Hootie and Tony Brown that they can play right away.

We need Nickel and Dime help too as well as depth. Even if RR and TW lock it down on the corners, we still have weaknesses.

All recruits recognize LSU as DBU...they talk about it in interviews. No one's opinions have changed just because we've struggled this year. They assume we'll get it corrected, as do I.

Has he already decided against LSU, you think? If so, based on what we have seen, he was going to go to Alabama no matter what we did.

It is crazy what Saban is pulling off there. The only way to take him down is to beat him every year, and then he will still sell the idea that recruits need to come there to help him get back on top and the only reason that they lost was because they didn't have players the quality of the recruit they are trying to get. He spins quite a web.

this is a huge positive if 2 true freshman play well. all top end recruits think they are the best thing yet so it would not deter them to see 2 true freshman starting. it would hurt if they were soph or jr. and seemed entrenched.

I dont think this is true.

Hootie was a major LSU lean early on.

Thats what i love about the db position at LSU. It doesnt matter if your a fifth year senior starting at corner or safety, if a freshman comes in and is more talented, bye bye.

One season of struggle doesn't offset a reputation build over multiple seasons and multiple guys going to the NFL. Plus, I think the recruits understand this is a transition year at the position - two true freshmen being pressed into action at CB and safeties learning to make calls and get guys in position, which is something Eric Reid brought.

Yea the strong safety that plays for the 49ers said he loves playing with Eric Reid opposed to the Goldson guy because he communicates so well. As a rookie thats special.

Has this been confirmed? Will RR21 be starting in place of Mills tomorrow or is it that you're just assuming it being it definitely looks as though the staff is moving in that direction?

We'll see on Saturday. It's Les talk so it may be a little difficult to follow, but everything Les has said leads us to believe this. If not Florida, then soon after.

I like Mills in the nickel a lot.

He should get some more pt

we may go mills and tre at CB in the 4-3

go with Tre and RR21 at CB and bump Mills inside in the nickel

Essentially what we did with TM7 and Simon. RR21 in the simon roll and Mills in the TM7 roll.

I would like to see Mills given a chance at FS for a series or two. Never know. Couldn't be much worse.

I doubt that the way the defensive backfield play for either lsu or bama really talks much for recruits. If anything works in our favor.
Lsu was under the radar this year, and bama was supposed to be loaded in that area.
Both have played par thus far.

Is this for your creative writing class? Because it's fiction. Jalen Mills is the starter and the #1 corner on this team. RR displacing Mills is a Rant fable, at least so far. My guess is that if RR earns a starting job TW will hit the bench. I doubt it happens though; I believe what you saw the last game is the plan for the rest of the year - Mills and White start, and Mills slides to slot when we go three corners. I base this on my own observation that Mills has been a dominant corner for LSU for two years. He looks as good as Mo ever was, and he's definitely better than Simon was. The young'uns probably have even more potential, though. Next year should be interesting.
