Rashan Gary recapped that trip in a video interview with Scout's Brian Dohn. Gary did say he enjoyed his first time in Baton Rouge. He came down with one of his coaches and three teammates from powerhouse Paramus Catholic in New Jersey. "I loved it," Gary said. "It was family. Everybody was happy to see us, even the players...When we got there, they welcomed us with open arms. We had a fun time." LSU gave Gary the type of treatment that comes with an official visit, even though this was only an unofficial. The trip included meals with the coaches, personal tours of the facilities and plenty of one-on-one time with Ed Orgeron.

LSU told Gary they like him as a five-tech or four-tech defensive end, as he fits the mold of the bigger DEs that LSU has targeted in this class as the Tigers move to a 3-4 defensive scheme.

LSU will have to get Gary back to Baton Rouge on an official visit with his mother if the Tigers want to stay in contention for his commitment. Gary doesn't have any official visits set up, but he is closing in on a Top Five. "I have a good idea, but I"m just focusing on this football season right now," he said. When asked what will factor into his final decision, Gary joked that "good food" is a must. The Tigers definitely have that going for them. "Every time you go down south you eat good," Gary said, "not like you eat in New Jersey."

I make a fantastic jambalaya (made with shrimp, crawfish and sausage), I've been told. It's a recipe I got when I lived in Lafitte, LA for several years. My mother-in-law, a sweet cajun lady from Scott, LA, said that it was the best jambalaya that she had ever eaten in her life, so I take that as a huge compliment coming from her, as she was an awesome chef.

I don't really cook like that but I could probably get my aunt to mail him some homemade pecan candy and tell her to just put Baton Rouge for the return address.
