Well to be fair, until this year you could say the same thing about LSU

Yeah no shite every time we received a big WR commit from the past 5-6 years that was all that flew out the mouths of opposing fans' mouths. "Can't believe he's going to LSU to block and get thrown at once a game." I'm over the ride, we have some STUDS coming in this class plus I'm in the extremely small minority that think JUICE is coming back.

The problems with Quille from the staffs perspective:

1) can he run routes well enough to see meaningful snaps
2) can he grasp the playbook fast enough to see meaningful snaps
3) do they have to watch him outside of football
4) would his decision to attend LSU effect the decision of other highly touted receiving prospects.
5) all this for a seemingly one and done player - this ain't basketball

This is what they've talked about and came to their decision

most will not understand this. They just can't see the big picture when it comes to recruiting. It's harder to evaluate these kids than some think. It's not just football. It's an evaluation of the kid/student/athlete.

I've said it before, but DW is a high risk commit. It's the reason not everyone is after him. I'm fine with the coaches decision. I don't want another group like that in 2011.

This was always my question. There is nothing high profile that I know about, and I don't want to speak out of turn about the kid - but every JUCO has some question - in my mind - and I say that with the highest regard for Mett and, for example, Kenny Hollis - we've had pretty good luck with JUCO players over the years - character wise.

But, between incidents involving Jefferson, Mathieu, Hill, Brazil, Holmes (and I'm sure there are others), and that's just over the past 2-3 years - the staff is looking at mitigating some of this - none of these incidents were catastrophic, and I'm not even saying they're bad kids, necessarily, merely by their involvement in these incidents.

And it's not that you don't take Jeremy Hill (or heck, LF, HYPOTHETICALLY - if there were "questions") - and we took a chance on Mett, for example, but you don't take 4 or 5 of them in a class - too much risk.

my mindset is as follows:

it's high fricking time that all fans understand that when they do not understand things going on in recruiting, trust this staff!! They know things you NEVER will! They have proven themselves great at this and getting many quality young men like Hilliard, who when times are tough, make good decisions.

I'm not sure how you define catastrophic, but I think LSU competes for the BCS title last year if Tyrann is still on the team. Of course, for him to be on the team you'd have to still take the chance to recruit him. All in all, it was a black eye (some wrongfully painted in the press), but I think the staff would not pass on Tyrann if the situation came up again. They may just change how harshly they deal with the behavior/drug issues.
