Really not meant to flame. I actually contemplated asking this on another board. Truly curious about the mentality of a highly rated or even 3 star guy.

Does every major D1 prospect think that their son is going to make it to the NFL? I ask because it seems more and more of the highly rated guys are saying that they are going to commit to so and so school for 3-4 years. Does the use of the number 3 connotate that the recruit and his parents have no plan on pursuing a degree at all in the event the NFL plan doesn't work out?

I saw this sign a while back and it just illustrated the rarity and ridiculous odds that one has to make it in the NFL even for a little while.

What happens if they choose a worthless major like 80% of the population does.

Of course they expect to make it to the pros. You've got parents of kids much, much younger sharing the same dream.

Depends entirely on the mentality of the family. Some of them desire for the son to get their degree even if they are the GOAT at their respective sport. Some want them to start getting a check as soon as they possibly can. Just depends really.

You just never know. Some losers make it simply because they can punt, or deep snap.

JJ Watt was a 3 star I think.

No but every prospect thinks it.

I can't say I've watched many three stars announce live so I can't judge. Most theee stars would announce on visits, Twitter etc. No where near as much hype as the 4 and 5*. But yes I would hope they would believe they will eventually make it if they are good enough to earn scholarships to division 1 schools.

i heard something on the radio the other day that fits this conversation.

There was some sort of study done that concluded C average students were more successful in life because they were more adapt to facing adversity.

The same could be said for 2 and 3 star atheletes trying to make it to the nfl.

..which is 95% of them, and 99% of that 95% have no backup plan.

I was recruited 20 plus years ago. I wasn't a blue chip by any stretch of the imagination. I was, however, damn sure I was going to college to play football....not study. My mom, a school teacher, tried to beat it into my head that I needed to study more, do better on ACT, work as hard in class as I did on the field, blah blah blah, but I didn't hear it. Blew out my knee and the world came tumbling down. I preach to my kids, and any other kids that are within earshot, that one wrong step can end your athletic career, but your mind will carry you on, if you're prepared.

I imagine a college coach prefers kids who think they can go pro. Not sure I'd want too many kids if any at all who when asked answer "I think I'll be ok playing at college maybe, but no way I'll ever play beyond college". I'd want a kid who says "i know I have a lot of work to do to get there but I know I can go pro with hard work and training"

"Can" and "will" are two different issues. Question was whether everyone thinks they will go pro.

If you think you can... You're pretty sure you will. Coming out of high school going into a D1 program - I would think every one of them at that point think they can and will go Pro. That's their dream after all.
