My son is the punter for Barbe and is having a relatively good year. After 10 punts in 4 games, he's averaging 40 yds/punt with 3 touchbacks and 3 caught/downed inside the opponent's 20. Longest is 53 yds. He's had very little coaching in terms of technique/mechanics so I think there's a little upside potential.

He's interested in playing at a small D-1 or D-2 school. Realistically, what are his chances if he continues on this pace? Do recruiters seek punters or should he make initial contact?

Academically, a strong student with a very high ACT. Does this factor into the recruiting process in La if he'll have the full TOPS scholarship?

There's some some kicker camps that report to most D1 coaches on what they see out of kickers. Your son 's best bet is going to those camps, performing well..and hoping that the people who run the camp put the word out.

Any chance of post-season awards, all-district, etc?

good punters/kickers are difficult to find. I'm sure your son will land somewhere.

Radio announcers for Barbe have mentioned a few times on air that they think he's the best punter we've had in the past 10-15 years. Haven't seen any other punters in our district other than Carencro's so not sure of how he stacks against them or where I could see those stats.

A friend of mine is the head coach at St. Louis high school in and specializes in punters/kickers. He was a 1st team all american punter at Mcneese. I think his last 4 that he has coached have signed D-1 scholarships. One of those guys is their starting punter at USC (west) right now. Might want to look him up. His name is Pat Neck.

The reason I ask is because of name recognition. You have to get his name/stats/tape out there for college coaches to see. I'd make a list of all the recruiting coords for the schools your son may be interested in and make sure they get tape and a face to face meeting with you and your son. That's why camps are so important because coaches can legally, first-hand evaluate talent.
