Solid read. Steve Wiltfong's weekly buzz

Trust the staff guys.

I forgot about Judge Culpepper. Just looked at him and his offer list has gotten impressive since LSU offered.

Such bullshite, the star rating system is infallible. What does Ogeron and the coaching staff hope to accomplish by actually watching the recruit perform in position specific play? This class is a disaster because of all the 3 stars.

But it could be real man, the gazers (stars and meat) only want one thing and its not necessarily getting the best player at the position of need.

it isn't like these coaches don't have 4 and 5 star players to compare these kids too. I trust they know talent and character when they see it.

that said, we all agree you've got to sprinkle some 5 stars into the mix. and high 4 stars.

Some good stuff in that article from Wiltfong:

quote:

When Curry committed, I wrote he was a threat to score on every touch; as a high school junior, he had three touchdown runs of over 90 yards. But it sounds like the Tigers staff was just as impressed with his explosion as they were with how hard he competed in camp. He’s seen as a back that can punish defenses, wear them down and be the pound the rock guy at some point in his career.

quote:

Provens an Alvin Kamara-type player – a guy LSU will be able to line up anywhere, motion all over. I’ve seen him catch the football in camp, and he’s as good as any back in the country when it comes to ball skills. He’s a slippery back with quickness and good change of direction speed.

quote:

The 6'2, 220-pound Carter with the combination of size, speed and ability to catch the football spoke to Oregeron and his assistants and earned him the offer. He’s an every-down back who will push the room upon arrival.

Which of these three stars do you consider to be "the best player" at a position of need?
Maybe there is one, but I haven't seen it.
No question there are some underrated three star players in there...

I like how you respond to his questions with sound intellect and in-depth discussion instead of typical smart arse comments.

I guess you didn't read the op or article. It's right there. And you haven't seen it because it is talking about the value of camp evals, which you haven't seen, like it says in the op and article.

Star ranking system isn't infallible by any means, but the final rankings are more than a decent indicator of what kind of talent you are bringing in. 2018 rankings are far from final however

Last years first rd picks, all top 100 players. Next years 1st round projections? Key and Guice, both top 100 players

Look at last years draft class:

Composite rank - Name - drafted

1 - Fournette - 4
31 - Adams - 6
54 - White - 27
57 - Pocic - 58
535 - Riley - 75
74 - Beckwith - 107
149 - Godchaux - 178
17 - Dupre - 247

You'll have your diamonds in the rough, you'll have your guys that don't live up to the hype. But for the most part the more talented the player the higher they end up ranked

You mean to tell me that we shouldn't be sacrificing our team's future wellbeing and performance so a bunch of loser arse nerds will be able to brag about how many 4 stars we're signing this season on the SEC rant?

Wow that's almost exactly how I've described these players at some point or another. You really don't need a bunch of 5* and high 4* players every year to win lots of games even though LSU does have them through out its roster.

Of course this staff will take the big names if it comes knocking but they will take what they see as fitting right now. We also have an early period this year so maybe it's part of their strategy to have lots of commits before that period.

You have to think that once the season starts LSU will have more options and interest so will room all of a sudden open up after the early period? You know one thing is for certain, Ed and staff will NOT let up on the trail or all of a sudden stop evaluating talent. Hmmmm.... HTT

The early signing period is December 20, doesn't leave much time to make up ground.
