Am I the only one who notices that for all the talent Louisiana produces in football that it seems like we never have elite offensive linemen or quarterbacks. WR, RB and DBs all day long but never OL or QB. Why do you think that is? I understand QB in the state are often spread run first kids who switch positions in college but why can’t we produce elite OL like some states do? You’ve always got blue chip big men coming out of Texas, Alabama and Georgia.

Demographics. You’ll get a Cam Robinson/La’el Collins type every 5-10 years but facts are those two positions lend themselves to Caucasians and we are a state that is predominantly African-American. Georgia has over twice the population of Louisiana and Texas is no comparison. Alabama is very similar but I don’t think they have some noticeable lead with QB/OL recruits, they get most of their guys out of states

Not enough Owskis.

Our HS offenses are run by putting a great athlete back there and letting him run around a lot and throw some.

Have you not noticed LBs? The reason there is, most schools in La. who have a guy built to be an SEC LB is going to put that guy on the line.

I'm glad you liked my gif, Bro Chi Minh.

And I'm sorry you asked for a retort...I'll make it brief:

- Louisiana is currently 60% white.

- (3) out of the (5) OL starters for the Pats, who are about to win another SB, are AA...both tackles are AA.

I’m talking high school athletes and regardless we’re the 2nd most black state in the US. And the percentage of white offensive lineman in the NFL compared to the other positions (non special teams) is comical. It’s 55/45 white. Whereas at DB, WR, RB, etc (as OP was wondering) it’s 95% black. Facts are hard.

Do you want him to point out all the black OL in the NFL?

It’s a position where caucasians can still have some success but it isn’t a position that Caucasian’s dominate.

There are more starting white OL in the NFL than there are black. There’s like 3 black centers. How do you think that compares to cornerback running back reciever? You guys are CRAZY

I can tell you're getting emotional and are going to have trouble taking the L here, so I'll just leave it at this...

- Mississippi has the highest percentage of AA in the country.
- Miss State starts AA's at (3) of it (5) OL spots.
- Ole Miss starts AA's at (2) of it (5) OL spots.
- For the kicker: (7) out of (10) of the top OL nationally in the current 2019 class are AA according to 247's composite...since you mentioned high school athletes

Have a great day.

The fact you don’t see that you’re making my point is good stuff. Y’all stay in denial now I’m sure there’s some other perfectly rational explanation to the OP’s quandary.

I knew you were going to have trouble.

It's okay, but I do suggest learning to admit when you're incorrect about something...it's really not a big deal...we're all friends here. I was wrong about Michelle Obama being female, and I have no trouble admitting it.

I'll go and upvote your posts in this thread for you.

Peace, mang.

I've noticed it. Seems like I notice it every year actually.

There's some things to look at is to why, which I can't really answer:

- overall population. Statistically, as someone else has already mentioned, we don't have the population of a GA or TX (or FL) to pull the sheer numbers. Especially OTs. Great OTs that have the frame/size, athletic ability, agility, and mentality are probably the most rare of any position. More rare than QBs... and you need 2 of them. That's why I hate the idea of "the fence", at least for OL. If you prioritize in-state when the numbers just aren't there you prioritize lesser talent AND (double-whammy) de-emphasize championship level talent.

- We seem to put out (as a state) an inordinate number of DL to our population. Are those DL "draining" the numbers from the OL?

- We share a similar issue as AR or OK- very low numbers of population centers. What OL talent is there is spread out. We are better off than those two, but not by that far.

- yes race and the attached heritage-demographic play a part. Let's take the race part out with an example: Nigerians on the whole are bigger than Angolans just like Germans are larger than French. There's a reason our state prison is named Angola and not Lagos.

- Very difficult to project. 2 playoff teams had OTs from LA... which one was not on our radar and one was low on our board. When you have as many moving parts as I listed in the first point, it's difficult. The tendency is to go for size/frame. We've gone biased way to far in that direction. Other teams aren't as weighted to size as we are, hence they find more "diamonds in the rough" than we do. It also increases the sheer numbers you can pull from because where we might pass on that 275 lb agile OT, they are including them because weight is just a function of time for them. The trade off is being longer from recruit to starter... but if you do it year after year then that's not a problem.

There are more back tackles and guards though.

Center is a strangely white position

But acting like black people can’t play the position is insane and point blank wrong

I don’t think that’s accuracte but I’ll give you 50/50. Is it 50/50 at the other positions? How about 60/40? 70/30? It’s more like 95/5.
