Nilo Silvan in the early 90's from Covington and played at St. Paul's. Was team captain for Tennessee and played a bit in the NFL with the Bucs.

Reggie Cooper was a beast at Slidell HS

A three-year starter at Strong Safety for Coach Tom Osborne at Nebraska. Cooper was 6-3, 210 lbs. , two-time honorable-mention All-American and a Husker co-captain as a senior in 1990. Cooper was a four-time letterwinner for the Blackshirts.

Covington Lions RB Paul Nixon was a stud from 1987 to 1990.
I'm not sure what held him back from the next level. I think grades.

Brad Ducre was solid from Mandeville 1988-1990. He went to Tennessee for a year then transferred to Tulane.

I remember Nixon at Covington. He was extremely good but also extremely dumb.

B.J. Sams

Played against him in basketball in '98 and '99... Duhon too.

Both are really cool guys, especially Chris. BJ was A LOT better at football than basketball

Interviewed them both in 2000 while I was working for the St. Tammany Newsbanner and would occasionally cross paths with them at parties in HS.

Covington QB Steven Smith in the 1987 class. Went to Stanford, was rated by some as nation's top quarterback. Freshman All-American before hurting his elbow. Was projected 3rd round pick after transfer, then broke vertebrates in his back. I believe he broke a lot of Division 1AA (or DII) passing records.

Early 80's Covington had Vincent Alexander RB/KR and Larry Route? That was a TE. Route went to Tulane. Not sure where Alexander went but he was a baller.
