quote:

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron knows what it takes to lure top prospects to his program.

What Orgeron is trying to figure out is how to make the most of the Tigers' current situation. The interim head coach has done a masterful job in keeping the 2017 LSU recruiting class largely intact, with only one defection since Les Miles' departure coming by way of junior college wide receiver Stephen Guidry, who withdrew his verbal pledge shortly after Miles' firing.

The Tigers have a gargantuan SEC battle set for Alabama on November 5, which ordinarily would call for a vast range of recruiting visitors, including official visits, but not this go-around, according to sources within the program. Orgeron has decided to save LSU's official visits for after the season in an attempt to allow the LSU staff to finish strong after athletic director Joe Alleva makes his decision on who will be in charge of the football program beyond these next four games.

The Tigers' final regular-season game is scheduled for November 24 against Texas A&M. December 9 will be the date that the LSU staff targets for its first round of official visitors, most of which will be used on their committed early enrollees, prior to the no-contact period.

While this strategy makes sense in a lot of ways, it is not clear if the Tigers will have their long-term head coach in place by then, making it increasingly difficult to convince prospects to enroll in a program without knowing who is going to be leading them for the next 3-5 years of their collegiate football careers.

Sources state that LSU will indeed be hosting visitors for the Alabama and Florida games, but they will all be unofficial visits, as it currently stands.

Smart move
You don't want recruits coming in and asking questions you can't answer.
That uncertainty will almost guarantee they go somewhere else.
I'm more amazed how they've kept the class together so far.

But what about showing recruits what a night game in Tiger Stadium is like against a solid opponent?

Wouldn't that make kids want to come here regardless of who the coach is?

They will see the Bama game at night, it will be unofficial visits, most of them were coming in anyway and several bama is recruiting are coming as well. That way you save the official visits which are much more personal anyway.

With a game like Bama the staff is limited to the time they can spend on a game weekend anyway.

Couldn't agree more, every day I look to see if there were any de-commitments.

I guess this is CEO being a 'team player'?

HC visits are HC visits (limit 5 per year??). If there's a new guy in town he's going to want visit the top recruits and he won't be able to if CEO uses them.

My take on the strategy anyway

ETA: I've got this all backwards don't I? Apologies

Yea, if I'm a big recruit who can't afford the travel and get told I can't see this game, I tell them to FO!
If they live coach O, they want there visit to be with him, to show HIM support as well.

Alleva is a fricking douche and is already fricking this up!

Any serious recruit or already committed player who needs a few bucks to come on down and watch the big game will get the money. The official visit is more about spending the weekend on campus with the rest of the class and the coaches/players. They are all busy during the season anyway.

I like this strategy well enough.

Recruits can still go to the game, I'm sure there are tickets offered in the family section near the students and band. I'd bet Moses and most of the bigger recruits in Louisiana will try to attend regardless if its an official visit.
