New co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Tim Beck said on Monday that Gibson would strictly be repping at quarterback for OSU, but that plan obviously changed fast. To be clear, OSU has not said that Gibson is moving positions. He could just be getting some practice reps at wide receiver, and will still get snaps at quarterback as well.

Yeah, ok coach

If true, looks we dodged a bullet there

Agreed. Having him come in as a "QB" could have scared away Franks. I'm glad it worked out this way.

You are right about potential Franks impact, but having Gibson come is a QB and not be good enough to be a QB, when we need quality play, would not have be good for the team or the position. We don't have a luxury of a miss right now.

Makes me really hope we are evaluating guys in a very thorough manner and starting to recruit a lot of guys early. Seems like we started to turn a corner with Franks. Hope that continues.

Not too sure about dodging the bullet...

Gibson is a fantastic wide receiver prospect, one that I was able to witness first hand on numerous occasions. That kid can really run, 4.4 type of speed, and has a natural ability to catch the football. He has some work to do for sure, but it wouldn't surprise me to see him become a big time player as a receiver for the Buckeyes.

So you are basing years of future success on their past 2 years of success (and all incoming QB recruits)... interdasting.

He always looked like a WR playing QB in his highlights.

OR it could be a way to get a tremendous player on the field instead of being stuck behind the logjam at QB where he gets ZERO reps.

Yep. I remember people getting upset when I posted that he doesn't look like a college QB in his highlights

2 years? I would say that Terrell Pryor, Braxton Miller, JT Barrett and Cardale Jones has and will cover at least 7-8 years.

I can't stand OSU, but they've had some of the best QB play in the country over the last few years, and I don't see it stopping this season.

I would love to have Gibson in purple and gold. I don't think Franks would be scared off. OSU knows he isn't going to see the field right now as a QB, so let him play WR and get an electric athlete on the field. In a year or 2 when Barrett and Jones are gone then maybe Gibson gets his shot. Or maybe he isn't a QB and he sticks at WR. Either way, it's a no lose situation for OSU.

I don't want to admit it to myself much less stir the pot here, but you have to admit Meyer has gotten much out of QBs everywhere he has went. AND, the opposite is almost, not quite, true at LSU.

I will note that I think Cam deserves two more years. Then we can judge if he was over-hyped or that CLM is having a negative impact on the position way too much.

I'd give him three. Let him have Franks through sophomore year. That way he's evaluated on two that he hand picked [Harris and Franks] and had at least two seasons with each. No different than with Harris, we can't reasonably expect Franks to come in as a true freshman and be a savior for the team.

BTW: Go back and look at the stats Junior year for both Franks and Harris and look at where Rivals rated the both of them. Both were in the high 90s of their top 100. I know Franks is much better rated elsewhere and may be leaps and bounds ahead in maturity [time will tell], but from a strictly stats standpoint there's not that much distance between the two.

We "dodged a bullet" by not giving rant more "Les can't developed top QB talent" ammo if he had come here and moved to WR.

Gibson had an incredible practice in limited time as a QUARTERBACK at Ohio State. He wow'ed according to many there including QB coach Tim Beck.

Then two days later, he went to Beck and Meyer and said he wanted to move to WR this year to get on the field and make an impact.

Very unselfish move. And this is after Tim Beck said two days earlier that he was a QB and would stay there since he had tremendous upside.

The kid is a hell of an athlete, we'll see if he gets on the field this year as a true freshman. Ohio State is pretty stacked at WR with young talent. If he jumps over all of them, that would be very impressive.

He'll stay at WR, can almost guarantee it.

Perhaps, but he has a cannon and is fast and elusive.

Pretty perfect for the read-option.

The comparison to Randy Moss is totally premature.

For those that don't know, Moss wanted to go to Ohio State but got in trouble (fighting) and had grades issues. He obviously ended up at Marshall.
