Lincoln Riley talks QB recruiting, says players need to have 'a good sense of reality'

Derek Peterson | 3 hours ago

Lincoln Riley recruited Malachi Nelson at Oklahoma. When he left the Sooners to take over at USC, he asked Nelson to trust him and follow him. USC fought off a push from Texas A&M prior to signing day and, when it was all said and done, felt like it had the heir apparent to Caleb Williams.

A year after his signing, Riley and the offensive staff are back to the drawing board, left without the quarterback expected to take them into the post-Williams era and into the Big Ten. Nelson is entering the transfer portal.

If Nelson was the Heir-apparent, then he shouldn't have needed a bonafide QB from the portal.

18 year old kids don’t know what they want. The days of loyalty, competition, hard work, earning things are rare.

If I was a QB I’d stick with Riley. I mean the guy’s resumè speaks for itself. Your defense may lose you games you should win, but you’ll develop as a QB and make the league.

Seems like he didn’t develop fast enough to Riley’s liking.

I’m sure some pressure is starting to be felt on him. Two bad years, joining the B1G where the competition gets more intense probably made him decide he needs experience at the position

As prevalent today as they’ve always been.

You can move along if you’d like. No one forces you to read or reply. Some did read and reply, thanks to them.

This is not LSU-related

Exactly LSU doesn’t play USC to start the season next year. Nobody on this board is interested in who they are recruiting to fill in that spot.

This isn’t really about USC or LSU. It’s a generalization about recruiting in today’s game. So let me correct myself. It is about LSU and recruiting.

This is an LSU board. If this was related or had an impact on LSU I have no qualms. But it has absolutely nothing to do with LSU or LSU Recruiting, so post on More Sports.
