Kevin Mawae, potential OL coach, Recruiting abilities?

Mawae is one of the top centers of recent times, having been selected for the Pro Bowl on six consecutive occasions (1999–2004), and was an eight-time All-Pro. He also served two terms as NFLPA president

I think he would have great credibility in recruiting but there is a lot more to being a successful recruiting than the in-home visits and phone calls. you have to be like a sales rep in constant contact

Why would they think that? He doesn't have the track record of getting kids in the NFL.
He may very well be a great recruiter and coach, but I nor you have any idea how good/bad he is at it because he has yet to do it.

I would think/hope the two time pres of the NFLPA would be pretty well spoken and articulate. His playing resume was second to none.
The larger challenge will be whether or not he can relate to the kids and vice versa.

I'm sure they will be impressed, but I'm sure they are impressed but multiple coaches coming after them. There's more to recruiting than a good impression.

No one knows.
You would expect a NFLPA president to have excellent communication skills, and he speaks well in interviews, but literally no one knows.

Possibly. He may very well be great at selling himself and the program to these kids, but in reality none of us on this board know because we haven't seen him do it.

he has coached in high school, at vandy(ol assistant) and in the nfl at buffalo(intern). seems like hes primed to make the next step. most recruiting is selling oneself and their respective school. 2 advantages he'll have already. ditto for xs and os.

at some of the nay-sayers about his recruiting. You sell the program and yourself, I don't think he'd have a problem with that. "I'm in the HOF and LSU got me there along with 8 pro bowls and a 16 year career."

There's a lot more to to recruiting with that. If there wasn't, every college in America would be knocking retired probowlers' doors down to join their staffs.

He was the president of the nflpa. He can sell his career as a HOFER to these kids but also throw in a little knowledge on the business side of how the league works. I don't think recruiting would be an issue at all for him. Kids and parents would both be impressed.

Truthfully, I'm more worried about how much he wants to recruit and do all the things that come with it than his actually ability to recruit.

Nobody knows. Not a one. Y'all can argue all you want, but nobody on here knows what type of personallity he has. He may be a jerk that has a bad temper and doesn't like people. That may be why he was a great offensive lineman. He might be phoney on camera and that's why people don't like him once they get to know him. He might be a really nice guy. He might be bad at teaching kids how to do things. Nobody knows. Not someone you really want to take a chance on at a major school.

Right now I'm more concerned with coaching the guys we have. Miles recruited most of the OL anyway. Our OL has had a recent history of struggling with teams that they should be man handling.
As I've mentioned, this year we had one of, if not THE best average for height & weight on the line. I made a detailed thread about it before the season started. The OL has been underperforming. They should have been much better and consistent than they've been. We need someone who can coach these guys.
