I would have to say our chances just went up a bit with our new hiring of Gonzalez.

He had an offer, and that's about it.

Yeah, he hasn't been in the picture at all and I don't think he even visited.

All it does is guarantee that Florida doesn't get him.

It's too bad this didn't happen last year. We might have had a shot at Debose.

Probably the best we can do this year would be someone like Dunkley.

Wouldn't it be funny if it came out this week that Debose was going to transfer?

Oh my........he'd be likely for a medical redshirt I would think and we'd be back at square one with him with four years of eligibility.

How's that exactly? Didn't he already do that?

What? you mean for his knee this past year? well I suppose he would have to miss a year when he came here.........but the question is:

Can you redshirt a player who has received a medical redshirt? So that the "throwaway" year is a redshirt year?

Medical redshirts aren't decided on until you are done with your eligibility though, right? See charles Alexander.

From the top. The base rule for all intercollegiate sports is that a student-athlete (SA) has a 5 year time limit to compete in 4 of those years.

A "Medical Hardship" is applied for through the conference office and as long as the SA meets the criteria, the conference office will grant a medical hardship waiver. This waiver allows a SA that has competed during the season to be able to not count the season as one of the 4 competition years (again, as long as the criteria is met).

To apply for a "sixth year" (ala Charles Alexander), the school has to apply through the NCAA to have the 5 year limit extended due to circumstances beyond the SA's control. This is why it most likely occurs when a SA has two separate seasons that he meets the criteria of the "med hardship waiver."

The NCAA looks at a normal redshirt year as within the SA's control, so this fact does not help in the argument of getting an extension beyond the 5 year limit.
