Johnny Jones could lose as many as five scholarship players from his 2015-16 squad, and as a result the Tigers will need to have a big 2016 signing class.
The Tigers had a pair of commitments already in the boat – Skylar Mays and Wayde Sims – but Jones doubled that number as he has landed Baytown (Texas) Lee College duo Branden Jenkins and Duop Reath according to JucoRecruiting.com.
Jenkins, a 6-foot-4, 180-pound combo guard, and Reath, a 6-foot-10, 240-pound power forward, both visited LSU in October.
On Jenkins, JucoRecruiting.com Expert Brad Winton wrote, “He is very good in transition and is tough to contain off the dribble in the half-court offense. Jenkins has very quick hands and can defend all three perimeter spots. He has a very good mid-range game and can pull up on a dime from 15 feet.
“Jenkins also has a very quick first step and can use his size and athletic ability to score through contact at the rim. He was considering Texas and Virginia Tech before committing to LSU.”
Winton was just as high on Reath as he wrote, “Reath is arguably the top forward in the 2016 JC class and is extremely skilled for his size. He has the ability to score with his back to the basket in the low post and can also score from the perimeter.
“He has a smooth stroke with range that extends beyond the three-point line. He can also attack the basket off the dribble against bigger/slower forwards.”
Winton added that Reath considered Texas and Virginia Tech before choosing LSU. Both, Reath and Jenkins, are expected to sign this month, according to Winton
