Interesting "Rumor" (Bama and LSU Related)

I have been told by someone with connections to the LSU athletic department that it is likely that Bama spends more money in Louisiana recruiting than LSU spends in Louisiana. If true, that is pretty fascinating.
We know that Bama's recruiting budget is larger than LSU, by a large margin.
We can assume LSU does not have to spend quite as much per recruit in Louisiana just due to geography.
I suppose Saban views getting recruits out of Louisiana as killing to birds with one stone - hurting LSU at a minimum while helping Bama on the field. He gets more bang for his buck.
Interesting business move if true.

not that shocking. it costs alot more to send a bama assistant to Baton Rouge or New Orleans than it does to send an LSU assistant

If that is true, they got a bad return on their investment last year.

Now, IF he was doing it to hurt LSU that would just be stupid. TN and AU are not slowing down right now, and with FSU back on top Alabama may want to watch their own backyard a little bit....but he is here because he has A)connections B) we have great players

Exactly. Every time this discussion comes up it eventually comes up that Tennessee's recruiting budget drawfs almost everyone else, and has even under Dooley when they didn't recruit worth shite. They have no local talent base.
This is really simple. If the recruits are far away, it costs you more money to fly to see them and more money to fly their family in to see you.
I would much rather see every surplus penny LSU FB makes go towards facilities before a single one goes to increasing the recruiting budget.

I mean what would LSU be spending money on?
we can go see any recruit in the state on a day drip.

If you don't think he goes after specific kids to hurt LSU, Auburn, as well as help him on the field then you are pretty naive.

Maybe it's not the travel, the motels, or the meals that is costing them so much.

Well, I would agree that he isn't recruiting LA kids out of spite. But by signing a LA kid, he both gains a good player AND keeps that kid from going to one of his chief rivals. All things being equal, if he can sign a kid and at the same time "hurt" an SEC West rival by stealing that kid from them, it's a win-win for him. The same would go for Auburn, TAM, etc. (Louisiana probably gets more attention than many other states simply because the state is so rich in talent, NOT because he has some kind of grudge against LSU.) And I would suspect that Les and every other coach feels the same way.

Saban's first priority is to make Alabama as good as possible by attracting the best players available. If getting those players denies them to LSU, or other SEC schools, that is just an added bonus for Alabama.

Another thread saying Bama out recruits LSU in Louisiana

I like this part.
And when you consider that Houston and Mobile are both only 4 hours away - we have cheap access to an abundance of talent.

What?
Spends more money does not equate to out recruit.

Yeah but what you don't have is a few dozen "talent scouts" on the payroll.
Or a marketing guru putting together everything from mailer pamphlets to campus visit schedules.
Not to mention enough staff to be able to make 50 kids feel pampered at once.
Agree to disagree.

Dude, he didn't mean hurt LSU because of any emotional ties. He meant hurt LSU by taking talent away from an in-conference rival.
