in state vs out of state recruits

It appears fans, players, recruits etc have a much better perception of LSU from afar than in state.
Having lived in and out of state. It's remarkable to hear the message from h.s. coaches, players, media, etc. how players should go out of state because lsu and it's coaching staff isn't as good as other programs. The perception is lsu isn't an elite/premier program.
However, when I moved out of state, the perception of LSU is that it is one of the elite, premier programs in the country. (you don't hear that in state).
So, watching recruiting unfold, it appears our top in state talent doesn't look at LSU as an elite, premier program. The talk is that they can be developed better at another program, another program always beats lsu, another program has better coaches, etc. (Moses, Allen, smith, buggs)
however, top out of state talent is excited to get the lsu offer and has a more positive outlook. (stevens, Phillips, gay, Wilson decalus, etc) Even the O.C. said, man, this is LSU, on why he took the Job.
I truly believe, it's the Louisiana/lsu fan base that has created this perception. from tigerdroppings, to h.s. coaches, to fan's coaching pee wee football, h.s. ball, etc. The water cooler discussions have been our coaches aren't good and our university isn't a elite program. Hell, people even state what a $h!t hole b.r. is. Therefore, the thinking is we are not.
however, the perception from the outside looking in is that we are. If you can change this culture, you start getting the top athletes, you start whipping that envied team, and you start winning championships again. I think the fan base has as much responsibility to help change this as the coaches do.

FYI, Stephens is a Louisiana boy. Father graduated from Crowley High. He just happens to live in another state now. I'm not 100% sure if he was born in LA but having family from here practically makes him a LA recruit.

LSU just needs to beat Alabama

Looking at 24/7 composite, 3 of the top 4 recruits in Louisiana will be heading to Alabama.
That's a fricking travesty.

I don't believe this to be true. He doesn't hear all the noise from the instate people. How les miles is dumb, lsu is mediocre, if I was an athlete, I'd go be coached by someone else etc.
If you grow up in Louisiana, you hear this everywhere. In the stores, at t-ball games, at soccer games, at school, h.s. school games, talk shows, internet, lsu tailgates, in the stands. If you hear it long enough, you start to believe it.

The program you speak of has been to the playoffs every single year and won championships at an unbelievable clip. That's the reason for the perception, not water cooler talk. Also, LSU has to be 100% on an instate recruit before offering. They can't afford to "process" them later if someone better becomes available. Due to this, they're put behind the 8 ball by teams that can throw out scholarships like candy then recant for a better player later in the process.

What helped them get to that level? Landon Collins, tim Williams, Cam Robinson, Eddy Lacey, Duval, etc. If they don't secure those guys and lsu does, then things could be a lot different.

FYI most of it is the coaches trying to get the player away from trouble. I love that we landed divinity but my friends that are teachers at ehret told me the trouble comes and visits him every weekend in forms of old friends and women still crushing on him from HS.

Trouble follows kids everywhere. You see the article and suspension on Tim Williams? Did moving keep trouble away? maybe the kid is the trouble? Janzen Jackson? did moving help him? Sentimore? Landon Collins brother?
coaches are as about as ignorant as the kids if they think that is going to be the resolution. go out of state to get away from trouble. If the kid is in trouble in Louisiana, he will probably find the same kind of trouble where he goes.

I didnt realize that TD & tRant can't be pulled up on the internet in other states...
I think you are over analysing 18 yr old kids...they just want to experience something new & adventurous...as far as HS coaches, they steer their pupils where they tbink it is in their best interest...some kids just need to get away from the influence of their HS friends...
Besides, I don't think these kids needed the fans input to realize how dumb Miles was...

Trouble will come looking wherever you are.
Since we're on the topic, I'm VERY dissapointed in Nick Saban. He blatantly looks the other way and in some cases goes through great lengths to downplay and cover up the "troubles" of his players. Why? Because using his words it's all in the name of "doing what's best for the players". No Nick! You're doing what's best for you. Instead of letting the light hit these issues and giving players help and time to recover and become better equipped to handle success, he buries them deeper so no one can see.

And there you have it folks. Can't make my point any clearer. The melt over Ogeron is pretty good example of these people doing more damage than being helpful to the program they are a fan of.
These poor people can't even recognize that they help create the perception. They blame everything and take responsibility for nothing.
