IMO, Cortez Hankton as WRs coach would solidify BK's staff from a recruiting perspective. Collectively, this group of coaches would give us a strong local (LA), regional & national presence.

In-State (LA)
Hankton, a New Orleans native, feels like the final piece to the 'local (LA)' puzzle. We'd have a solid, four (4) man squad that includes:
(1) Frank Wilson (state-wide)
(2) Brad Davis (BR)
(3) Cortez Hankton (NOLA)
(4) Joe Sloan (North LA)

Regional (TX-OK-AR-MO)
The following group of assistant coaches appear to have an established presence in neighboring states that we've not tapped into as much in recent years:
(a) Brad Davis (Ark/MO/TX)
(b) Kerry Cooks (TX/OK)
(c) Jamar Cain (TX/OK/CA)
(d) Robert Steeples (MO)

National (Midwest-E/W Coasts)
Beyond the territory that's geographically close in proximity, this new staff should also have strong networks nationally, as follows:
(1) Brian Kelly (Midwest-E. Coast)
(2) Mike Denbrock (Midwest)
(3) Matt House (Southeast)
(4) Brian Polian (West Coast)

Low Texas numbers have been hurting the most in recent classes. We have to start winning those battles.

Cain also national - was hitting Maryland recruiting pretty hard before Riley left.

score another for d-wright, another good post. Thank you.

I'd absolutely love to see Hankton at LSU. Sort of rounds it out/completes the circle doesn't it?

He doesn't have a wealth of experience, but for the most part appears to be a pretty good coach outside the recruiting benefits. He falls in that up-and-comer category as a technical coach to me and for WRs that's just fine.

All that matters now is $$$$$. Recruiting is a lot easier now and a much easier decision for recruits. Now all you have to do is commit to highest bidder. Coaches and their background and recruiting ability are secondary.

I dont think thats entirely true, think about if you have competing job offers from companies, one is close to home, easy commute and you have friends there already and one is halfway around the world but both pay essentially the same

I understand your point about NIL money.

However, still need to have good recruiters on staff - Particularly for recruiting Louisiana kids.

And Hopefully this pay for play BS kinda evens out once we get our ducks in a row…..

A lot of good information in that short post!
Like Goon noted, it is appreciated, especially by folks like me who do not know all these coaches.
What do we do to keep recruiting Fla. effectively?

This group of recruiters is missing on Florida. That state was ripe for the taking with Florida, FSU, and Miami all down the last few years, and we didn't capitalize on that nearly enough. That was Raymond's recruiting area if not mistaken. We always get a few high recruits out of the sunshine state. We can't forget that.

I want to believe coaches matter in recruiting but Tamu refutes that view pretty easily... dont know how much money actually committed at Tamu but NIL changed their status substantially

Not that it matters because Cortez is obviously a good guy, but isn't the Hankton family of NOLA a pretty shady group, or am I totally confusing that last name with a former LSU DB's family? Just curious.

That Virginia, maryland, and dc area has tons of talent.

Ole miss, texas arse&m, and bama have been hitting up philly lately too.

Hankton would be overkill with Wilson, Davis, and Sloan.

We need a guy with connections in Florida (to replace Raymond) or Texas.

I’d bet Hankton has connections in Florida

Hankton also played at Texas Southern and appears to have nice Texas ties. He recruited:
Lewis Cine 4 star S from Cedar Hill
Julian Humphrey 4 star CB from Houston
Dillon Bell 3 star WR from Houston

A lot of Florida recruits on his resume too

Not 100% true

Finding those 3 and 4 * guys that can ball too will be crucial and there are PLENTY out there.

The speculation is that Cortez is the primary target to fill that vacancy - and his status as George’s WR coach is the cog holding up the higher

(and all that does seem to jive with the fact that our wide receiver coach is the loan position still remaining vacant)

given that Frank has spent the last 5-6 years either in Texas or close to it at McNeese, does he give us some additional TX help now?
