I haven't seen much talk about him and I didn't know anything about him, but going to look at his highlight film...wow. The kid looks impressive. What I don't know is the level of competition he is playing against. His film is impressive though. He still looks like he has a baby face in some of his pictures, but he doesn't play like that.

Apparently he is in MSU's backyard and is all MSU...but I still don't understand the relatively low national ranking. Obviously, that's why I don't scout and project for a living.

He's one of your typical MS recruits who will stay in MS, crazy how well they keep their state locked down.

They have had two 4 or 5 star composite players sign with schools outside of MS the last 4 classes (2012-2015), both were to LSU.

Lashley had pretty good competition from an overall team perspective. I was shocked to see them beat Louisville as bad as they did. They should have been able to beat Starkville this season since Starkville was supposed to be having a down year... Oxford, my understanding was THE team this year and nobody was stopping them.

I know overall that's a good team, but I also know historically -- having talked with collegiate offensive linemen from West Point that went to MSU for instance: The kids didn't know fundamental techniques. I'm not sure if coaching styles have changed, but I am sure that this kid has a huge physical presence and is able to maul opposing defensive linemen.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. Now, MSU is just down the road about 15 minutes or so from his house. Alabama bandwaggoning in this area is HUGE, kids I'm coaching are immensely tied to Alabama at their young age. Without knowing Lashley on a personal level, my guess would be MSU or Bama will be his destination (based on the amount of fans in this area for those teams). I don't know if his family is tied with Ole Miss at all, but you never know either - West Point is a pretty crummy city to grow up in, he may be wanting to leave the state. Again - I'd still say odds are Bama or MSU; but I would absolutely say that kids in the "Golden Triangle" area (West Point, Columbus, Starkville) are a hodge podge mixed bag of fans of the SEC. This year on my team I had fans of: MSU, Ole Miss, Auburn, Bama, West Virginia, Georgia, Iowa, Oregon, and of course LSU. With the kids loving a school their entire youth, if he happened to love LSU there'd definitely be a chance.

The main point is the kids I'm familiar with - while not actively being recruited yet (other than one) - aren't sold on staying in state.

I’ve stayed at a friend’s place and played golf at Old Waverly several times. Nice as shite. But yeah, everywhere close is pretty shitty.

We do always eat at this incredible BYOB restaurant down town called Anthony’s and its unfrickingreal.

Rivals shows that Lashley was not even offered by Ole Miss or USM. Worthy of LSU offer? Gray shirt?

I would absolutely say that, because pretty much everyone around him has been saying State lock for a while now.

Like I said, only TWO total 4 or 5 star players have signed outside the state the last FOUR classes. Both of those players were to here. 1 of them Jeremy Liggins, never showed up, went to JUCO in MS, then wound up at Ole Miss.

There are a few decent areas - BIG BIG Old Money in West Point and Columbus... outside of those areas though, it's trash. Anthony's is great, so is twisted burger - there's an Amish place north 45 that used to be a fast food burger joint that has some pretty darn good food too. I wouldn't personally move to West Point anytime soon (unless I could afford private school for my kids and live in the higher end areas)

**also hearing from someone who knows him that there may be an issue with grades - not sure if that's accurate.

It's because all the other states make player sign their name, MSU just let's em "make their mark".

Lashley is considered an MSU lean because he's from their backyard and his uncle played for MSU. Johnnie Cooks.

Having lived in Mississippi most of my life, played high school college ball there just as there are really two Louisiana's North and South, there are at least that many Mississippi's. LSU does well on the Coast as Johnny Vaught wouldn't recruit there because he was a racist a-hole and didnt like blacks, Catholics, Coast rats etc. (This is not speculation my family knew him well.), State was a joke so South of Hattiesburg and Natchez area have tons of pro LSU people, and often no deep ties to Ole Miss or State.

Jackson or metro Mississippi is like New Orleans, kids can go to Bama, LSU, Ole Miss etc.

North Mississippi (Delta all Ole Miss, Golden Triangle all State, Hills etc) are much much harder to get a kid our off, strong schools ties, proximity etc. This kid is right down the street from State. Would be very very hard.

We need to renew our Gulf Coast ties. We are not as strong as we were pre Katrina. My high school has sent 4 players to LSU last 20 years including my brother but none in last few years.
