Not sure where to post this but since this board deals with recruiting and there appears to be many knowledgeable people on the subject here......At what level could a 15 year old kid, projected to be 6ft 185lb 4.60(40) WR/FS expect to play in college....LA Tech, McNeese St, DII or lower?
I know it's a pretty vague question. I could post video of his freshman season but not sure that is a great idea.
Like the stock market.....no one can really tell you what the future is.
But, he has one HUGE thing going for him:
-----You obviously care about him. You want him to succeed, whether you are his parent or close friend.
So tell him this: "regardless of how many times you hear this; don't get tired of this advice......get better at what you do, but get the best out of your education."

Another piece of great advice

4.6 40 time, my suggestion would be to bulk him up and make him a defensive lineman. All jokes aside, hope he has a great season.

What are his stats in each year of his high school career, what classification and in what State? Throw in a shuttle time, maybe 100M dash if he runs track, Vert jump, etc....
But the easiest question is if he is a star on his high school team now with college ability or just an average or below average player? You should know that unless if he is family you may think he is an all star.
Is he being recruited by any colleges. If he is then he has the potential, just needs to be in the 4.5 range for the 40 and possess skills, footwork, strength, agility, stamina, heart then he can be a great college player

I didnt mean to be negative, just realistic in regards to LSU was my thinking. Speed kills, if you weren't projecting the 4.6 at college age and thats his current speed then maybe there is a chance. Best of luck!

quote:I am very realistic actually.....I don't think he has P5 potential at this point and certainly not LSU talent. I think the high end for him is low level D1 (Rice, SMU) or high end 1-AA (McNeese, Sam Houston St)

His 40 time concerns me more than anything at this point. He already has 33 inch vertical and has run 4.2 in the shuttle.
He just needs to get stronger and faster.

have played/been involved in at every level and I can tell you that you can not put a ceiling on him. I have been around players that matured early and some that matured late.
what you need to gauge is his passion for the game. if he is extremely passionate, he will put in the work to get D1.
your obviously a caring parent/ friend and you love him so help guide him, get him the training and coaching he needs to succeed and roll with it. I haven't seen the film but id be interested to know where he plays at. that could be a big difference maker on where he gets looks from.
please keep posted on his journey

you're forgetting the two most important numbers... GPA and ACT

the college recruiters are the experts at that. you may not like what they say but it is what it is. of course, they are not perfect but they (collectively) are right most of the time. imo, the kid should play at his level and have fun with it.

Have him do this to strengthen his hamstrings:

Mark Laird is still a beanpole 3 years removed from HS.

When I first started doing it, my hamstrings would begin to cramp from the workload.
It's definitely a great strength builder. The DB from Arizona State, Adam Archuleta, walked on and eventually made the NFL by busting his arse.
I believe his improved his 40 time by several tenths between HS and College doing similar training.

Don't worry about the 40 time. If the kid can play he can play. Sure it helps to have nice 40 numbers but creating separation with route running and being able to catch the ball are more important. Jarvis Landry ran a 4.77 at the combine and still got drafted in the second round. 4.6 is about average for most NFL safeties.
Point is.. Don't get too tied up in the numbers. If he can play they will find him.

You see it all the time.. You'll hear evaluators say "He ran a blah blah but he plays much faster than that."
Deceptiveness, instinctiveness all play into this.

Depends on his mentality and his will to win. If D-1 is on his mind he will train for the opportunity. Once he has the opportunity to prove himself he should seize that opportunity.
I remember reading an article about D. Moses and his dad. One thing his dad claims he told D. Moses is that there are kids in the world who are totally awesome but D. Moses had not seen them yet. So they were going to train for the day that met.
I as a serious athlete would take the same approach; train for the competition. If you consistently dominant the best athletes in the country guess what you will be the best athlete in the country.
And at that point you will be able to choose your school
