Maybe my sarcasm meter is turned off but when exactly was crime and abuse almost non-existent?

In the small town I grew up in (pop. 1500) we didn't lock out house doors at night or even bother to take our car keys out. For us, crime was a non-issue. I don't think life in the other small towns around ours was too different from that either. Jusy a bygone era now. Obviously, in cities that wasn't the case but it was where I grew-up.

I hope this answers your question.

This is a separate topic than what I was trying to get at in the OP. IOW, of the say top-20 talented and qualified in-state athletes, how many would say it's their dream to play at LSU? My guess (and no data to support it since recruiting rankings didn't exist then), is that about 90% of the top talent would sign with LSU in the 60's/70's. I don't think that's the case now. Someone can tell me what that number is nowadays.

LSU can recruit nationally better now than ever. It appears that Les's approach is to target the top 12-15 in-state players and then supplement our classes with OOS players. It works.

I was simply trying to get others to share their thoughts on how the past era compared to now.
