The reason I ask is, if it's not very many or none...Why? Is it because the State doesn't produce good/great football players? Or is because Les has purposely avoided the state because of a outmoded sense of loyalty? If it is a question of honor or loyalty to his old program, what do you think about this? Classy? Stupid?

Of all the states for us to recruit, I doubt OK is that high up on the list.

I think it is a combination of OU being the destination school for in-state guys, talent scarcity, and having to compete against both OU and OSU for that scarce talent while resources could be devoted toward TX instead.

so a sort of cost/benefit analysis has been done by the program and there's just no way to make it work?

It is best to go toward the path of least resistance especially since TX is right next door and has 100 times more talent. Then when there are situations such as Deondre Clark, when a talented prospect reaches out to our staff with sincere interest, then we can definitely allocate the time and effort toward Oklahoma. Otherwise, it would not make much sense to heavily recruit that state.

Yeah I kind of thought the same thing, though...it's kind of weird, same thing with Michigan recruits...I don't think we have taken many from there though they produce some good ones (especially outta Cass Tech)we are having this conversation because of the National Recruiting brand LSU has become thanks to ol Nick and Les...I think it's the Urban/Miami recruit that's got me thinking about it...

Michigan is even further away with a completely different culture. Michigan, Ohio State, and Michigan State rely heavily on recruits from there to fill their rosters. Both UM and tOSU have the same brand recognition as OU. I can't remember the last Michigan pull since Joe Barksdale. I think the only Michigan player on LSU's roster is Rob Bolden but he transferred in.

I don't think Miles has signed any players from Arkansas and I believe Saban only signed two while at LSU. Brett Helms, because his dad was an LSU grad and Matt Stoltz, who transferred back to Arkansas.

Oklahoma is a more extreme case than Arkansas, there is less talent, they are further away from Louisiana and they have better instate options than Arkansas. If Arkansas is a waste of time, Ok would be a major waste of time.

If you look at the rosters of the Univ. of Oklahoma program, with all its tradition, I believe you will find that a majority of their players most seasons are from Texas.

Though there have been a handful of great high school players from that state, it is hardly considered a hotbed of high school football talent.

We know that for its size, LA has produced a large percentage of NFL players per population. I doubt that Oklahoma rates that high.

I thought the Barksdales were from Baltimore

And was having this same conversation a few months back when Steven Parker and Justice Hansen visited. We've spent the last 15 years playing a game a year in Oklahoma and in that time I think we've signed like 3 guys from OK.

There's not a lot of talent and most of it doesn't leave the state. It's mostly a waste of resources if a kid doesn't reach out to you. This year is considered an up year for OK and there are 6 total 4* players and the 7th guy is rated 86 by 247. To get to an 86, you'd have to go to the 42nd guy in LA or 92nd guy in TX.

This is why there is more to gain from playing a school from TX on national TV than playing OU or OSU. Scheduling a game with TCU at Cowboys Stadium was a brilliant move.

I believe 4-star RB Devon Thomas from Broken Arrow, OK expressed a lot of interest as well at one point but the interest did not get reciprocated back. I think he is now committed to OSU.

Looking at the Sooner's roster of 80 players...only 22 are from Oklahoma and a majority on the roster are from Texas.

agree, unless the game against OU or Ok State is at Jerryworld... then it is a great idea for LSU and the Oklahoma team
