Played at Nicholls, coached at Karr then OP Walker, then went to college coaching. Was it simply due to his success and national attention as coach at OPW? Just curious.

The players he had at OPW. He had so many D1 recruits, college coaches started offering him jobs to try to get to some of his players. He is also well connected and thought of in New Orleans and college coaches knew this would be asset in recruting. He became the Orleans Parish AD before Bebe Orgeron offered him his first college job at Ole Miss. It was all about recruiting, which is his strong point. Orgeron wanted Wilson to bring some of the South Louisiana talent to Oxford.

here's the thing... he also shut Curtis out and took an Orleans Parish Public School to the dome... Curtis hadn't lost a district game in 22 years before that

It was a few years after that before he got a college job, he became the Orleans Parish AD before he went to Ole Miss. Wilson is not an X's O's guru, his thing is recruiting. He did a great job at OPW he took ALOT of talent and got them to the Superdome. Wilson is very well connected in New orleans and has a great personality and is a really good guy. After he got to Ole Miss he became a great recruiter, because of his ability to relate to young athletes, his character, and his personality. College football is about recruting players, you need good recruiters on your staff just like you need coaches that are good teachers of the game.
