I can understand the criticism of IMG for its impact on the high school football teams who lose players to IMG. But consider the flip side. IMG is making a large investment in each of these players. It has an incentive to make the investment worthwhile for itself and the players. Otherwise they would not try to attract elite players, nor would elite players accept unless beneficial.
There aren't many public schools that can provide the individual academic attention to student athletes that IMG can, and given IMG's investment in the student athletes there is a real commitment by IMG. Some parents might also think the social circumstances at IMG are superior to those at their local schools. If given the choice would you rather your child go to school with a bunch of pampered kids or many possibly deprived kids?
I have a hard time criticizing the kids who accept offers to attend IMG or their parents for allowing them to attend. It is an opportunity that would be hard to reject unless both student and parent(s) are happy with current opportunities at local schools.

Meh... I don't like the idea of IMG...
Players like Moses and Delpit are already known commodities so it's not like they needed the exposure... To me, and I'm more of an old school traditionalist, I hate the fact that these guys turn their back on their former high school coaches and teammates who were counting on them..
And look, I'm not bashing them for going to IMG bc that is a personal choice for them and their families, but if it were me, and I was a big time prospect, I'm staying home and trying to do something special at my school, not a college football prep school

I am less sympathetic toward Moses who was attending a high school with a limited, and select, student body. He was not attending a school with many of the academic failings and social issues facing many public school students. He was not going to miss out on any recruiting opportunities if he stayed at U High. So I am inclined to view his attendance at IMG as more motivated by selfishness.
I can't form as informed an opinion regarding Delpit as I'm not familiar with the school he was attending. I'll give him, and his parents, the benefit of the doubt that they have his best interests in mind.
I have a hard time faulting anyone choosing to go to IMG when comparing availability of training opportunities from a facilities and personnel perspective. As for loyalty to classmates, people have a right to choose their associates and make friendships with whomever they choose. The decisions made by Moses and Delpit almost certainly decrease the chances of success for their former teammates, but shouldn't they be entitled to some reward for their contributions to any prior success?

Fair enough... I come from a small(ish) town where mow people in high school grew up playing together so maybe my opinion is somewhat jaded

Yeah, I see amateur football going the way of amateur basketball very soon.

I believe he is at North Shore in Houston, which is a huge HS in a not so great part of town. Most on this board would not send their kids there for sure. It is a public school that is a powerhouse in football and is one if (if not the largest) HS in Houston. Hard to blame him or his parents moving him to a better situation.

Do you understand the main motivation for Dylan was early enrollment something he could not do at UHIGH

Moses wants to enroll early in college. He couldn't do that at Uhigh.

Then that makes perfect sense. As does anyone escaping a bad area. I guess I don't have an issue with the school as long as it prepares athletes for college both athletically (fundamentally sound) and academically

No, he is at Lamar. An HISD school. Lamar has an abundance of talent, but word on the street they are leaving in droves.
He was actually at a private school prior to Lamar, but thats a different story all together.......

I did not realize that U High does not allow for the possibility of early graduation. It is not so selfish to leave if the institution is preventing him from achieving a personal goal that is clearly within his reach. I can't blame someone for leaving when the cause is being denied an opportunity that is not rare and is available elsewhere.

Lamar has recruited kids for years. They always have D 1 prospects. Branden Lafell went to Lamar.

Actually, in most coaching circles in Houston, Lamar isn't considered a recruiting school (like a Manvel) ...at least not like they could be. Lamar is the most sought after school in HISD for students in general, they literally dont need to recuit for risk UIL rapture.
He was not recruited to Lamar, plain and simple, a google search of his last name and first school can reveal why he left.

I am the only person who realizes Moses will be 19 in a few weeks. LHSAA would rule him ineligible for play. Apparently they're gonna let him play in Fla at IMG. In LA you can turn 19 before Sept 1 of senior year.

19 going into senior year? So he's essentially two years older than everyone else? That's odd. One year, sure. But two?

He just turned 18 a week ago (May 25th)

the thing is this you dont know what those people are dealing with. and if the kid wants to be selfish for his own personal reasons so what? what is it to you?
Uhigh is a consistent State Semi-finals team. Mahaffey has done a good job identifying talent in that area. I firmly believe that he as the coach will have the same amount of success as he has had in the past even before young Mr. Moses put on the cubs uniforms.
you made a good point about training facilities though. from what i have read IMG is second to none. and a kid attending school there receive high quality training that Uhigh specifically simply could not produce.
Im all for the kid moving into a more college ready situation and i cant wait to see his finished product. and i hope he chooses LSU. I watched his spring game and son let me tell you...LSU does not want to see that kid in Crimson and white. that would be a total nightmare. you think Tim Williams is Explosive Dylan is faster and more explosive at the highschool level than Tim was at Uhigh, watch Tim's highlights. LSU's coaching staff should do what they have to do to get that young man back in the fold.
