Lyndell Wilson is the top LB in the 2016 class according to Rivals. I'm sure he's tops in other services too, and has a list of 15 "schools of interest." I know that list does not mean a whole heck of a lot, and being from Alabama, odds are he is a Bama commit, but it seems we aren't even in the game. I look at top recruits and LSU is missing from quite a few lists. Are we going after the top guys? or because of our small recruiting budget, we only go after ones we think we have the best chances to get? I do not understand the recruiting game.
Frustrating.

IF you win they will come. Kids want to go to winning programs that lead to the NFL.

Could be 1 of 2 things.

The recruit doesn't have interest

or

LSU tends to not waste time going after a guy they have no shot at.

Not sure what site you are looking at, but we are one of the leaders* for the top LB of that class.. and he isn't named Lyndell Wilson..

LSU doesn't waste time in Alabama if there is no mutual interest.

They don't have the in state overall talent to make it worth wild having to compete against Alabama and Auburn for their in state kid. Whereas we are very willing to compete against Alabama and Auburn for an out of state kid from another state..

If you notice, we lead in Alabama for the top CB from that state for that class.. because he values LSU

Keion Joyner is the top linebacker and is from NC and we lead for him.. We will battle other top schools in another state outside of Alabama, but if there is no mutual interest I don't think we will waste time there. Just MY OPINION.

And I just learned this about John Broussard, the top CB in that state.

quote:

"Since I started grinding, LSU's been the offer I wanted," he said.

Broussard is originally from Lafayette and his sister is currently enrolled at Louisiana-Lafayette.

See.. LSU just really doesn't spend much time going after top recruits in that state unless there is a mutual interest IMO.

Oh okay nice

well I just remember 247 having Keion Joyner as #1 LB on both composite and their own ranking which I value and #4 overall composite I believe

BAMA fans say Broussard is skinny, too small, and not really worth the kffer.....naturally

We do really well in the Carolina's and Florida's Southeastern area for Top Defensive Recruits.

I hope we can land him

True, I understand about recruits in Gumpville. Hard to take one of those.
Why not Tre Lamar? LINK 4 star. # 8 LB in 2016 (Rivals) out of GA. 25 schools listed. No LSU.
Minnesota is on there. Syracuse, Wisconsin. Why not us? Maybe we have, but it seems like we do not even try on some recruits.
Not trying to be an arse, just looking for insight from some of you guys that follow it more than I do.

STEP 1: Don't take those offer lists so literal.

LSU should offer every LB in 2016 and see what happens.

Give it time. Steele and Orgeron just got here. They will work with Frank, Henry, Cam, Raymond, and Grimes and target the best prospects in an efficient manner.

We have the best recruiting staff now. I mean that. We have a top shelf recruiter for every position.

Joyner, the big fish, and Divinity, the second big fish, are our main priorities at LB right now. Outside of those, we need one or two more OLB and an ILB.

IMO, it would be a waste of time trying to pull a born and bred 5 star Gump from Alabama. You're not just facing Alabama, you're facing Auburn as well. This guy has been on their radar for years. Kirby Smart is one of the top recruiters in all of college ball. Will Muschamp is a demon at recruiting too. Seems like a waste of time IMO.

LSU does in fact "not try on some recruits". For several reasons including lack of interest from an out of state kid. Especially though, they do their own evaluations and may not value the recruit as highly as some schools or some recruiting service.
