This kid is taking straight up algebra in his second year of JUCO? I'm pretty sure I took it in ninth grade.

The MAKE you take it again in college for a whole bunch of majors. It's called COLLEGE Algebra and it is usually the math class for a lot of the liberal arts degrees.

That is how I remember it, anyway.

If he was cleared by the NCAA then I am guessing the algebra class was just an extra class he was taking. He might not have needed it to get into LSU.

He probably does need it. It's probably the course that will cover the extra math requirement that the SEC has for JUCO transfers that the NCAA doesn't. Not having it was the reason that Loadholt, I believe, ended up at OK.

should teach finance and investment, something he will need when he turns pro and makes the big bucks. As I remember it Algebra was for the folks not going for BS degree who didn't have to take calculus and physics for there BA degree.

I believe nothing kids/students say when it comes to their academics and grades. Most of them exaggerate when asked how they are doing in school. I will believe it when he shows up on campus.

Actually, only math, engineering, physical sciences (physics, astronomy, etc.)require calculus; pre-med, and life sciences (zoology, microbiology, etc.) don't/didn't require calculus for those BS degrees. You don't need to know calculus to do brain surgery or splice genes.
